« Les Paul Deluxe 1976 - Hambuckers »
Published on 11/08/14 at 13:44This is the Deluxe model, made in 1976 by Gibson USA. It bears the serial No. 06112954.
I bought in 2006 for € 1,800 at the time.
Goldtop finish, it has evolved so divine, revealing oxidation pigments that give it incredible mouth traces.
Equipped with original mini-humbuckers Gibson, it has been a popular modification in the 80s which resulted in the establishment of two Seymour Duncan 57 humbucker (which required the expanding slots for microphones).
The body is mahogany, 2-ply, with an arched maple top and binding.
The rest of the equipment is pure Gibson juice: 2 volumes / 2 tone / 3-position selector, bridge + tailpiece Tun-O-Matic / stopbar Aluminum, chrome hardware. The bridge was changed during my purchase, the original starting to sag after 30 loyal service.
Mechanical Groover does not seem original.
UTILIZATION
The handle is unusual: it is a glued-on maple neck (3 parts), with a rosewood fingerboard. It has 22 frets and has a rounded profile type 1959, with a binding of the most beautiful effect. Maple is uncommon in Gibson, is one of the reasons for my purchase because I wanted a guitar with a sharper than usual Paul's sound.
The button has the usual landmarks trapezoidal Pearloid.
In terms of ergonomics, we are in the presence of Paul ... It weighs about 4.9 kilograms, or the weight of a dead donkey! Access to acute is correct thanks to the cut, the handle is very comfortable but needs time to adjust for small hands.
Mine was refrettée in 2004, it is very well adjusted and the action is very low (maintenance and DNG settings in Paris).
SOUNDS
It sounds very Rock / Hard with a beautiful grain and a sharp pronounced (maple neck) mitigated by Seymour Duncan.
I think she excels crunch sounds. Paradoxically, it is doing a lot of clean sounds (neck pickup).
In a tube amp, it really shows its range of shades - just play the volume button to access a good range of adjustments without touching the amp. And as soon as you push the gain, it's good that Roar is the appointment !!!
OVERALL OPINION
She came into my collection in 2006 and I do not regret it.
I do not see me yet again with this guitar, or play it live, it is much too heavy for my fragile épaules.Je love it anyway: it tells a story when you look closely and his Gibson there. This is a very precise instrument that I like to use for registration. Despite his almost 40 years, it is extremely playable, even if it is riddled with shots and wear marks, which adds to its charm!
