« Yamaha BB605 »
Published on 11/25/02 at 15:00Bought from Academy of Sound in Glasgow, Scotland for GBP349. I tried quite a few basses and was generally impressed with the Yamaha's. Five string was a bit of a whim!
I am just a beginner, but the BB605 is easy to play. The set up wasn't great from new, but my teacher soon had it sorted and now its great to play. The finish is wonderfull, mine is the wine-red. I wasn't too happy about the gold hardware but it has grown on me and does suit the deep red colour. The active electronics give plenty of scope for adjustment.
Not much. BUT.... be carefull, some advertisements imply that the BB605 has the NE1 Parametric EQ electronics - IT DOES NOT! Only the VERY expensive Nathan East model (BB-EAST) has this facility. The BB605 (and BB604) are much simpler, with only a switchable (on/off) mid boost/cut control. There isn't anything wrong with what's provided for the money but it ain't parametric!!! The B string is a bit tricky to get the action and intonation right - mine is still a bit buzzy.
Simply excellent. The bass is very nice indeed with great attention to detail. I am very pleased with it.
A very nice instrument - recommended.
