Mix of a Strat and a Jaguar
Published on 09/29/11 at 09:12Grosh is a boutique vintage guitar maker out of California. They are known for their high end unique but vintage style guitars that sound and play great. These guitars are well known in the boutique guitar scene and are becoming more and more mainstream. This is their most popular model the Electrajet. The model I demoed is different than the model in the picture as mine had dual humbucking pickups. I would love to try one with P90s. The guitar has an offset body shape similar to a Jaguar but with strat themes to it. The body is made of alder with an ultra thin coat of nitro for the finish. The neck is maple with an aged nitro finish on it. The fretboard is Indian rosewood and it has 22 medium jumbo dunlop frets. Up top it has locking tuners to go with the Gotoh Fender style bridge. The pickups are dual in house Grosh pickups with a volume and tone and a vintage 3 way.
UTILIZATION
Even with the vintage style specs the guitar plays very well. The fretboard radius is only 10 inches but the bridge is compensated for this and you get a comfy action across all strings. The back of the neck is a vintage style V profile which gives a unique feel. The locking tuners help tuning stability but it will go out of tune if you stand on the tremolo.
SOUNDS
The Grosh in house humbuckers fit the guitar very well. With boutique guitars they rarely come with aftermarket pickups. When a guy is making the perfect guitar for his company they dont want to throw in someone elses pickups. The pickups are super jangly clean. They area almost like single coils when played clean. You get even more jangle when you split the coils. Split these pickups sound as good as any real single coils I have ever heard. With a bit of drive the smoothness makes itself known. The bridge pickup has nice bite to it and has a nice open sound. The neck pickup is nice and smooth but still has a good bit of bite to it. This helps complete the overall vintage Fender type tone this guitar is looking to get.
OVERALL OPINION
These are special guitars that you arent going to find in many guitar stores. Grosh will make whatever you want if you contact them directly. If you are a high end player and are looking for vintage Fender sound but with modern build and playability this guitar is a good option. This guitar comes out of the box ready to rock and with the perfect hardware for the job.See less30
