Best value:
Excellent
Installing Ubuntu is we-don't-be simpler, especially if you go via the Live CD.
With automated methods, even novices can run themselves into installing this system.
However, installing via the alternate CD may be less simple and clear, especially for configuring hard disk partitions.
All material on your PC is detected immediately without you having to install any driver.
So after about 15 to 20 minutes of installation, your PC is ready for use, the hardware is recognized and the necessary software (Firefox web browser, media players, burning software, etc. ....) is already installed.
SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE
What is the configuration of your computer? (Motherboard / CPU / Ram / Disk / sound card ..)
I have a Core2Duo E6300 configuration, 4GB RAM, 2 160GB HDD in RAID0 and a Geforce 8600GT
The software works he correctly on this configuration?
I turn acutellement Ubuntu Jaunty (9.04) 64-bit, everything works perfect.
What performance? (If quantifiable)
The performances are excellent, largely as good as Windows XP (if not better), and downright more stable and faster than Windows Vista and Seven. Not to mention the stability that is the rendezvous.
For example, at startup, with Vista I had about 1mn30 to have an office ready for use. Under Ubuntu, my PC is started in just 20 seconds.
I run under KDE 4.3 GUI now (Kubuntu) to enjoy more graphical effects and a nicer aesthetic, and performance is still excellent.
OVERALL OPINION
For how long have you been using it?
I use it for almost 3 years (I discovered Ubuntu version 7.04, I am now in the final, 9.04).
What thing do you like most/least about it?
What I like most, its gratuitée, its speed, stability, and ease of use. Because contrary to what we think, Linux is now much easier for basic office tasks (such as installing software or using it), the menus are much more intuitive than Windows.
What I like least, that one is a little more than limitté windows, especially at the games, forcing gamers to keep a Windows XP partition.
Did you try many other models before getting this one?
A little every Windows, especially Vista, which disappointed me greatly, hence my move to Ubuntu.
What is your opinion about the value for the price?
Excellent, the OS and its software is completely free.
Knowing what you know now, would you make the same choice? * ...
Without hesitation, and I recommend it highly to my friends who need a computer stable and easy to use for various office tasks (internet browsing, word processing, messaging, multimedia ...)
