The prototype of the LightLead cable had been introduced last January at Winter NAMM (see this news). Final version is now ready for pre-order, with an introductory price of £100 for the first 2000 cables, regular price will then be £119.99.
The LightLead cable is mainly designed for guitar and bass players as well as any amplified musician. It includes an AAA battery for up to 9 hours of play.
The advantage of the optical technology for musicians is, according to Iconic Sound, its capacity to deliver accurate and flawless sound, without any compression, thanks to free capacitance and load.
The cable is coated with PVC in order to protect the very fragile optical fiber, which can break easily when bending the cable for instance.
