Under this weird reference is a vintage tube preamp simulation created by Shattered Glass Audio for Mac and Windows.
The SGA1566 plug-in reproduces a real vintage analog tube preamp, but with two major changes: Shattered Glass Audio indeed added a tone control and transformed the mono version into stereo.
The developer also warns that, to obtain an authentic “analog” sound, the SGA1566 simulates the entire circuit in real time, which is CPU-heavy. If your computer can handle it, perfect, otherwise a second version, less accurate but also more CPU-friendly, is also provided.
The SGA1566 is a VST and AU plug-in for Mac OS X and Windows 32 and 64-bit. You can download it from www.shatteredglassaudio.com, for free evidently.
The Audiofanzine team wishes you all Happy Halloween, and a great weekend!
