Ditto for the characteristics of the machine (http://www.mc909.com).
Purchase: New January 2003: € 1,750
UTILIZATION
Connectors
The three stereo outputs allow a lot of handy configurations in home studio.
The USB provides an opening to the outside (internet) handy.
Interface
Being a regular series roland (MC303 and JX305 and finally mc909), the principle has not changed and it took very little time to identify all the possibilities.
The giant screen provides significant ease of use.
The manual has undergone a weight loss compared to previous models roland MC.
As a result, some parts starved of information (sampling, noon ... the list goes on).
Most functions are accessible from the front or on screen together all parties (Mixer, patches ...).
The most important interface changes ... We are already in the second version of the OS.
MIDI
As there is nothing in the manual is a bit a hassle when there are several machines to synchronize.
For my part, I use a box routing / filtering noon (Please LCL) handy.
The effects
Major weakness of the machine, not at the level of sound reproduction that I find very correct, but in use, it is a disaster (too many menus, lack of controllers ...)
Sequencer
faithful to the MC models, modes of classical recordings: TR, step by step real time.
The editing mode is damn microscope.
Small annoyance: when in edit mode pattern, all parties are active, because otherwise I would prefer to a change of only one party, they all redevienent active.
The song mode is useless.
Sampling
Implementation of samples rather heavy.
The edition is not used much since I prepared the samples for the PC.
Some functions interresting: Chop, resampling ...
The pads
Ben actually, they are not solid. After 6 months, I have two pads that lock!!
Shit ...
SOUNDS
It can go very far in the publication of a sound.
After it is only a research question, this is the part that I like most. The possibilities are enormous.
The sound is there, but my poor experience does not give any basis for comparison.
OVERALL OPINION
Goodies:
simplicity, efficiency & playability.
All in one.
Cons:
Prices, already dear to dépard, we must add more RAM, the card smatmedia ...
A few crashes (machine taped.)
Longuet start when you start having a lot of samples.
I think Roland could make a little effort to accentuate the hand around the community 909.
Their site is not bad but is updated once every 10 years.
It should be users to experience the site (forums, songs, change requests ...).
Personal message to Mr. Roland: I LOVE NOT TRANCE ...
