Made in USA, 1962 ... at that time, the names SG had not been invented yet and with the same timber as other versions of Les Paul, this model is manufactured to form quirky!
Honduras mahogany one piece body, one piece for the handle. Rio rosewood fingerboard (very dark and very fragile). 22 frets. One P-90 in acute volume and tone.
UTILIZATION
The handle is a bit much on some models, mine is rather thin but I think it was reworked after a head injury. Issue balance, the handle is obviously against all the weight as SG, the body is very light. But we eventually get used to.
When empty, it already sounds strong and is very comfortable. Small problem: as the head was broken and repaired, the holding of agreement is a fair bit. Maybe he will have it repaired by a luthier more serious than the one that made 30 years ago!
SOUNDS
The P-90 which had to be flashy and aggressive took 47 years to become demagnetized and oxidized. It sounds incredibly full, rich medium and low. Basically, cutting by half the pitch, I feel to have a neck pickup.
This guitar knows almost everything: jazz, funk, blues, rock, hard ... Just a caveat for the metal, the lower the P-90 too drool for the next incisive manner. But for those who love the sound mythical, exceedingly rich in harmonics, is happiness.
The frets were a little flushed, I made them change as a luthier and it gave him a second life.
OVERALL OPINION
This old thing was long gone (thank you to my old father) and I intended to resell. I had the good idea of refretter in advance and finally, I fell completely in love with this guitar. It became my main instrument though at the base, the shape of the SG does not attract me particularly. I love the look in its efficiency and comfort. A blank as connected, it's really an inspiration to me.
It had to be bought around $ 900 in the late 70's to its first American owner. I have read that it sold for $ 6000 on ebay. Even for the double, I do not let go!
