USE

It's that easy

SOUND QUALITY

I use my home a UA 6176, a portion AMEK 9098 by Neve, and honestly, incredible as a stepfather can it prampli not blush, it is different, especially 610, but no less interesting or good.
I am not convinced of the utility to change anything either above (transformers, etc.), it is already very bluffing like that, a lot of thick, gain, treble and sweet low mdium quite spectacular. I use it mostly on the voice, but also the low-line (although the 6176 is a very good machine for a, the sound that comes out of the PRE 73 suits me more, leaves go through the party for 1176 compress) and the guitar amp plug.

The Golden Age Project Pre73 MKII is a microphone preamp that comes in at a very fair price if you ask me! It has a max gain of 80dB and line input range from -20 to 10dB. The microphone impedance can be switched between 1200 and 300 OHM. The Golden Age Project Pre73 MKII will give you high quality recordings with no effort at all. It is easy to use, but you could have a little difficulty if you are not comfortable working with a preamplifier similar to this one. It is built like a tank, and built to last a long time. I have been using it for 2 years and it has never failed me or even got a scratch or scuff on it.


UTILIZATION

The level control (output) has “overloading” to the main gain, and fine gain adjustments. You can use your dynamic or condenser microphones with the golden Age Project Pre73 MKII because it can be switched from 300 to 1200 OHM’s. You can connect it to a synth or any sound module, bass guitars or electric guitars and you will automatically hear what it does for your sound.


SOUND QUALITY

My favorite thing about this preamp is the multi-input gain stage. If you need the MKII for limiting it will work great, but I prefer to use an external compressor to do my limiting/compression before I get to the final stages of mastering.

OVERALL OPINION

The sound is really colored with this preamp, the sound of the Pre73 MKII easily can compete with any preamp that costs twice the amount that it costs. It is a must have for your studio and at this price you really couldn’t get anything better for the money spent. I would purchase this again if anything ever happened to mine. It does also come with a 1 year warranty just in case!

Mine is the Mk.II model of the Pre73. The GAP Pre73 is a Neve 1073 clone.

The input impedance of the microphone input can be switched between 300 and 1200 ohms, which makes it possible to affect the tone of most microphones. There is also phase switch and an simple 4-step LED signal level meter.

The output level control makes it possible to make fine gain adjustments and also to overload the main gain stage for more character and then lower the signal to a suitable level before the output stage.

The PRE73 Mk. II has a maximum gain of 80 dB on the mic input and the gain range on the Line input is -20 to + 10 dB. There is also a high-impedance instrument input.

Only on Mk. II:

-Unbalanced insert jack for inserting units like the coming GAP EQ-73, a three band eq.
-LED meter levels adjusted.
-600 Ohm termination resistor and jumper added to power supply board.
-Revised Gain switch, turning the know clockwise now increases the gain.
-Reduced noise at high gains by a change to the power supply grounding scheme.

One minus for the fact that you need to buy an external rack plate to make it rack mountable.

UTILIZATION

Using it is dead simple. Max the Output and use the Line/Mic knob for maximum headroom, which this thing has plenty of. Do it vice versa for maximum coloration and/or some nice distortion of the preamp. I did an A/B test of it with my Firepod pres and it wins unsurprisingly hands down. SOUND QUALITY

As I mentioned above, it can be used as a transparent pre when setup that way. It also gives very nice coloration if need be, especially useful on vocals.

OVERALL OPINION

I'll get another one of these as soon as I have the cash for it so I can use them for kick and snare. Maybe a third one for the room mic. :D

I'm not too experienced with mic pres but this is very good value for me as I only record as a hobby.

Compare this with the preamp at 800-1000 AT LEAST € or more.
It is a bit colorful, but the sound is big, now with a nice personality.
Enormous gain of 80dB without breath.
Nothing to do with the preamp tube 100 or 500 €.

For the price it's excellent.
I do not understand the previous negative opinion but I respect it!

It is a preamp with analog circuit is based on the Neve 1073 but with cheap components assembled in China.

UTILIZATION

Is very simple to use and packed with interesting features. Can independently adjust the levels of input and output metering and thus distortion of the signal. This preamp also features a 48v phantom power supply, a pad-15db (or -20 I do not know) and a switch to low / high impedance (to choose from depending on the source output).

SOUND QUALITY

On bass, DI gave me a horrible gaming experience (feeling of "playing with cords of wood"). This machine does not control the entire bottom of the spectrum. And with a wha-wha guitar, the treble is super aggressive. In addition, I had to change a fuse after 15 days (problem set).

I first thought about selling it but I changed my mind when I started working on a raw funk project. If you want the sound dirty but relatively thick and solid sources rich in the midrange GAP73 is ideal.

I would therefore put an average: it deserves a 10/10 on some sources (rather than medium) and in certain styles (lo fi but still not quite rotten. For cons, I would put max 3 / 10 for the rest. & %&%&%&% I bought this preamp in Germany based on the test published in the magazine sound on sound. Initially I was very disappointed. Today, roughly a year later, I uses it regularly, but for specific tasks (eg to inflate and give to the presence of guitars and keyboards treated with amp simulators). For this he is doing really well.

This preamp is probably worth its price but more expensive it would be a scam. it makes me a little scared when I hear many people say they'll buy more to replace the preamp of their sound card. As general preamp, I frankly lost confidence in my motu preamps in the GAP73. Preamp as very distinctive and not too expensive it is really very interesting cons.

I store almost in the category "distortion effect-subtle-" in the category "preamp."

All this, of course, is only my humble opinion.
