The Hufi is a guitar conceived by the Swiss luthier Patrick Hufschmid for musicians who travel or tour a lot.
It's a 6-string guitar with 22.718" scale and a slightly smaller body than a standard electric guitar. Mahogany body (wonderful like on every Hufshmid), one-piece maple neck and 22-fret ebony fingerboard. One EMG Select humbucker and one volume control.
Fix bridge and standard Gotoh machine heads so the guitar stays in tune.
The Hufi belongs to the cheaper guitar series from Patrick, but nevertheless they are still custom-made and have a very high-quality.
UTILIZATION
The use is very simple. Since it's quite small and you can take it almost anywhere you'll be surprised to play it no matter where you are, and it's a real pleasure to play. If it stays near the TV... an irresistible force will command you to grab it
It's a real pleasure to play it and its flat fingerboard is a delight!!!
SOUNDS
The sound is the only weak point. Patrick conceived this guitar with the idea of reducing costs (and he succeeded), but in my opinion the acoustic sound of the guitar is really excellent and it deserves a better pickup than this EMG Select, which doesn't reproduce the full character of the instrument. But it sounds really nice with a good effects processor or amp, it's not a big deal... It's perfect for people looking for an accurate and powerful sound.
But when you're used to Hufschmid pickups (Kent Armstrong custom) it can be a bit disappointing! As a summary, I like this guitar so much that I will look for a good secondhand pickup to upgrade its EMG Select...
OVERALL OPINION
The Hufi is a surprising and very appealing guitar!!
Obviously, due to its size, it has certain limitations, like studio recording for example, but its possibilities for mobile musicians and its playability are serious advantages!
I would also like to mention that the Hufi + Vox Metal micro amp combination allowed me to play with a fat sound in various unusual and inspiring situations and it wouldn't have been possible with a standard guitar...
The Hufi range starts at affordable prices and Patrick can incorporate clients' ideas and wishes to his creations. I find the value for money of this guitar impressive and I recommend everyone regularly thinking "What a pity, if I only had my guitar" to check Patrick Hufschmid's web site: https://www.hufschmidguitars.com/
