«  High-end compressor »

Published on 12/01/12 at 05:04
Compressor broadband upscale, simple connections: two inputs and two XLR outputs. Solid construction, sturdy like a tank of the German Army. Simple design, lacks a little fantaise for me, but it's personal. Everything is clearly identifiable.

UTILIZATION

Easy to use for any who knows how to used a compressor. For others it is an "auto" for the release. There is a high pass filter per channel, 60 Hz or 90 Hz (or bypass). This allows not to intervene (or at least reduce) the compressor under these frequencies and it avoids pumping.

SOUND QUALITY

Another interesting feature in the "ratio" is the "soft" is not a "soft knee" classic, but can compress very early, with a reduced ratio will gradually increase. This gives a very natural. It is also possible to use the compressor in stereo (only the top channel is set in this case, the other copy settings internally).
But if you decide to "copy" the two channels manually, when you go in mono (with identical settings), widens the stereo image a little (very impressive sensation of air and space).
You can use this compressor so lightly: it brings a "binder" real, with great transparency. on the other hand, if you want to compress with large levels, it is no problem: Vertigo appreciate, and the sound does not seem at all "squashed" against it by turns.

OVERALL OPINION

Of very high quality. Can be used in mastering, to "buss compressor" and also track individual taut. I use other high-end machines (Manley, Tube-Tech, Weiss, dBX, Avalon, SSL, Neve ...) and I was looking for something else. In this price range, it's hard to be disappointed. Simply following what we seek is one more color of a given machine.
I think the strengths are high pass filters, function "soft" stereo operation leaving the machine "dual mono", and if you want a high compression, rendering the Vertigo is impressive.
There is a version plug in, which sounds good until we did not hear the real machine (after we try to deposit the trash in the rain, but it is not unique to Vertigo is the case all big bikes so-called "emulated" by the plug-ins).
