« opinion of Fame Studio Tube 15 Head »
Published on 12/07/10 at 01:4515w tube amp class AB Made in CHINA (I was mistaken in my previous comment ... I must buy myself glasses) pre-amplifier identical to marshall JCM800 home consists of 3 ECC83. welds are made to the old (probably by hand), capacitors are wima (like the JCM 800) and large resistors are carbon. (All this is excellent) Floor type power 18w marshall (2 EL84) volume control, gain, presence, EQ with three buttons. there are no graduations on the knob, to the studio, it just be embarrassing) excellent effects loop (can use the amp as power amp or preamp as) HP went 8 and 16 ohm (missing 4ohm to be perfect) no transistor as in the 15w harley benton, as the lamp as the old and the JCM, a current rectifying diode the massive transformers and lamps are Chinese a single sound, no reverb. (injury) unlike the tiny terror, no circuit for the switch 7w Class A (damage) the black plastic and logo Fame are very ugly ... (Ideal for customization in pink or color for tiger lovers of Kitchener)
UTILIZATION
buy new: no manual
the light fixtures are super painful to hand when changing lamps.
the input jack is a bit harsh, we must firmly push the jacks, it will be only slightly older ...
no markings on the knobs, the blow to rate settings it is not practical ...
the effects loop is convenient and works very well
lamp are the 15w was enough for a 4x12 inch
The weight is 8kg and small size, are very convenient (JCM is a much more heavy and bulky)
as the JCM800, the sound will always be clear what we will face boff.
there is no channel clear sound ...
SOUNDS
with a good copy sg / micro DiMarzio, Epiphone Les Paul, Washburn U.S., and an HP 12 inches and a Fender 4X12 celestion:
lamps with Chinese origin:
clear sound mediocre. with the gain thoroughly saturated his super dry. one would play with a low-end amplifier transistor ... origins of the lamps are just there to prove that the amp works. at worst a small budget, changing the first two lamps preamp is not bad.
after the change by an old V1 and V2 Phillips ECC83 and 2 V3par sovteck old ... Marshall found the sound, the grain is much better, the bass are more accurate and treble are hot ... with this setup, I sound great for blues and rock calm. For metal, it will take a light meter that saturates more than that in V1 and not to change the resistance values of the first triode.
with a distortion pedal as we decrease the gain ... its rings. I plugged a multi-effects Zoom in the loop is even better ... I get perfect sound for the metal
I will order new lamps powers powers to see the difference ...
I put a score of 5 because the amp is unusable with the original lamp will be great with good lighting.
OVERALL OPINION
I have tested most amps go like that.
Bought a week ago.
I like the electronic part remarkably neat, I like the JCM 800, 15w bulb (100w why play on a 3-bit when you have a 15W to 7 or 8) I like the presence of a loop Indeed, I like the weight of 8kg, I like the price ...
I dislike: the lack of scaling of knobs, the low end of plastoc Tolex and logo, the jack a bit firm, lamps crappy backgrounds, lack of a left 4ohm
as lamps are true origins of m. .. many people return the original amp that has a sound unusable. so you can easily find re-conditioned at 166euros (including postage). for forty euro you can afford a pair of power tubes JJ or EH (I like my DD) and lamps to suit your preamp games (tung ground gold in V1 and Sovtek or JJ ECC83 ECC83 WA in V2 and V3 for the metal, if you do not know what type of sound you want, buy a lot on ebay and made ECC83/12AXT testing combination lamps) if the output transformer does not suit you actually hammond 15w of very good for under 30 euros, but I think the output transformer is sufficient. (I have not taken the time to study if the left power amp was perfectible)
high-end amplifier for 200euros (counting change lamps) it is still a great deal. 15w lamp is sufficient to play most styles go-live and rehearsal. As against this head is a bit too powerful for the man studio (your neighbors will go crazy). Buy a 5 watt head to play in an apartment.
damage than the tinny terror it can not pass 7w in pure class A, but after modification of the lamps it will still be ideal for the studio.
trick to easily turn this amp into a bass amp and have his way Lemmy: a light meter in V2 12AT7 / ECC81.
lamps origins will make very good decoration of your Christmas tree ...
