« My best experience with a preamp »
Published on 03/01/14 at 08:56Preamp based on those of the bassman and JTM45. From clean to crunch velvety!
Amplification lamps,
1 Electroharmonix 12AY7 in V1 and V2 ECC83s 1 JJ. Lamps are being sorted.
The settings are these:
- A switch for the bright channel
- A switch to select the output level
- EQ (treble, mid, bass) VERY effective
- A footswitch to activate the preamp foot
- Possibly also: stereo output, remote entry
UTILIZATION
The pedal is very easy to use. Is extremely easy to get a sound to our expectations!
I use it with a torpedo CAB, but I'm sure it would work miracles with simple machines or Zoom Line 6.
SOUNDS
This small demo longer than say a discourse.
This preamp has a darker than Crystal character, crunch and a little faster. However, you can get very good with clean, especially cash it particularly well other pedals placed before her.
OVERALL OPINION
This led me to discover Fredamp.
I think many of you see blooming in the home studio and the pedalboard products Twonotes the Torpedo range that specializes in simulation of low HP and guitar, and is based on the technology of the convolution.
It is practical and compelling products. However, I had eight months to acquire a Torpedo CAB which would serve me well as Home-studio and rehearsal. This tool is already very convincing, deserved to be used with a good preamp, and this is why I have tried many, pedal format, to stay in line with the versatile and transportable equipment .
So I tried various things: simulations (line 6, zoom), preamp transistors (amt, tech 21), and finally preamp tubes. I leaned more particularly the latter, the "lights" with something very warm which I can now go wrong with me. Among those I had in particular two AMT SS11, especially a Effectrode Blackbird. The latter, although particularly expensive, has finally been a disappointment for me: an exemplary finish, however, it lacked warmth, or then maybe it was just not my taste ... For the preamps pedal format are not only rare, but also all (almost all) have great originality to offer clean way "deluxe reverb" ...
The only thing that was able to satisfy myself was a Marshall JMP1 (good Smashing Pumpkins fan, I'm not surprised), but the format was not appropriate.
Well, honestly I started désepérer, when finally there is less than a month, the friendly boss Twonotes, which occurs regularly here touting preamps manufactured by a French manufacturer. Interested, I learn from Fred Fredamp who immediately answered all my questions.
It offers me, at prices which I find very reasonable (especially given the prices charged by the competition) 3 preamp pedal format:
- Crystal (type fender twin reverb)
- The JTBass (Bassman/JTM45 type)
- And finally FPM100 (type plexi JMP100).
I finally opted for the JTBass with stereo output, footswitch, line input, and ... a green light! (And yes, the color of the LED has a large impact on the sound, is not it? And a little crazy on my pedalboard with laughter glowing is great! Short!)
10 days later ... I received the preamp that had been completed.
I had the Crystal then, just as good, but at least for my taste. I appreciate the strong character of JTBass, which I purchased new.
Frankly, I'm looking, I do not see any complaints about the JTBass. Some may find the invasive size (it's a little - barely - bigger than the CAB, but smaller than a Big Box EHX), but its worth it. And since Fredamp reduced the size of its preamps.
So I'm happy: this is a great tool to go play in rehearsal, in concert, or even computer music directly to the sound card (and personally with the plug-in Twonotes for simulation of firms). The quality is impeccable, interesting prices, the manufacturer listening and friendly ...
Also, it's made in France, and I must say it makes me happy to see the emergence of brands also interesting to us ^ ^
In short, I rarely say, but here: DARK! (Because you will have no chance to crash.)
From my side I'll start saving, because I intend to take me at least a Twomiam behind
