Cameo has released the Cameo Phase Distortion Suite, a bundle including three new plugins all based on classic Casio synths.
Loosely inspired by several Casio classic synths from the 1980s including the CZ1, CZ101, CZ1000, CZ2300S, CZ3000 and CZ5000 models, the three models included in the Cameo Phase Distortion Suite each offer a different approach, unique sonic character and inspiration.
The Cameo CZ incorporates a large library of custom patches designed on the original hardware. It aims at showing the rich diversity of timbres possible through phase distortion synthesis, with sounds ranging from complex digital tones to thick, analog-sounding basses and leads. Cameo CZ provides a deep sample library, including variations with and without the unique Chorus effect of the flagship CZ1.
The Cameo CX is a dual-layer instrument with a large catalog of sounds and raw waveforms captured directly from the hardware instruments. According to UVI, a hybrid methodology takes these raw waves as the basis for sound design within a modern digital environment, resulting in a wide variety of tones covering ground from vintage-inspired sounds to digital bliss, allowing users to explore the factory presets or design their own sounds from scratch with the raw waveforms.
Finally, Cameo CM is described as “UVI’s own modern inspiration of the phase distortion sound”. Another dual-layer instrument, this one uses the Wavetable oscillator and DSP shaping tools from Falcon. Cameo CM isn’t sample-based in the sense of the CZ and CX, but aimed at achieving wholly new, unique sounds using the architecture of the UVI Engine. Again, users can explore a range of presets or design their own sounds with a full compliment of synthesis tools and built-in effects.
Available now, the Cameo Phase Distortion Suite requires an iLok account for authorization BUT an iLok key is not necessary. Official full MSRP is $129, but it is currently available at the very special introductory price of $59 (over 50% off) until December 14th, 2015 – yes, it’s that soon so don’t waste time.
