The new Aly James VST plug-in is an intend to recreate on Windows the sound of the Simmons SDSV and SDS7 analog drum synth from the 80s.
The VSDS-X (for Virtual Simmons Drum System eXtended) plug-in is based on the modeling of the internal circuit, clocks and counters that read the EPROM memory, feed the 8-bit DAC which decodes the EPROM cymbal and hi-hat data in real time. The SSM2044 are also emulated and adjustable, such as the VCA, triggers and CV in order to produce a wide sonic variety.
Separate outputs are available in your DAW and you can load your own external EPROM data. The GUI offers full controls, with MIDI Learn and automation support.
The Aly James VSDS-X is available as a donationware, with a minimum of 15€. You can listen to demos at alyjameslab.com.
