Winter NAMM 2012 News
The best part of the Audio-Technica ATR25 is no doubt the cheap price! You won't find many stereo microphones for recording audio for film in this price range, as I literally don't think I've ever seen one. I should say that my focus in recording has always been on music and I don't do any sound for film or anything like that. While it's defi...
What I like most about the mic is fact that it connects USB 1.This is very convenient because if you're a novice or someone like me you're not going to want to lug around about of cables and units. They are simple to install, plug in play is what I call it. You plug one end of the usb cord into your mic and the other end into the ...
I really like this mic. It has great clarity. I've used it for recording acoustic guitar, bass amps, guitar amps, and vocals. For acoustic it really captured the warmth and body of the guitar. It sounded great on its own, but I also tried blending it with an SM57 (placed at the 12th fret) and it sounded phenomenal. The SM57 reall...
I feel like the easiest way to review this mic is to go through all its applications one by one. Vocals - Obviously this is where the 4050 really shines. It's a very warm mic and when coupled with a solid preamp it can make pretty much anyone sound good. I would agree with this. I've had one in my studio for a couple of years n...
I was in a Sam Ash last year browsing around. I know a few of the staff there pretty well and they take care of me. I started talking to a guy about condensers and said I was in the market for a good cardioid. I needed something to pair with an sm57 for micing electric in my studio. He recommended I do a shootout right in the store. We ende...
The Audio-Technica AT4040 is a great little beast that will sound better than any of the lower end Chinese microphones on the market, but that's not saying much. It works very well on me, but there are vocalists it just should not be on. However, even if you place it on these unsuited voices, the results will still be much better than the "boost...
Audio-Technica never ceases to amaze me with the consistency of their line. They have very few microphones that would be terrible in any given situation, most likely due to the fact that they still manufacture out of China entirely. Even their AT20-series microphones are manufactured in Taiwan, last I checked. The 40's are manufactured in Japan....
Personally, I prefer the AE3300. This microphone, for me at least, is very good live, but it comes across as just another premium live microphone to me. Unlike the AE3300, which seems to have enough "anger" in its sound for me to absolutely love, the AE5400 is sadly, a little bit dull-sounding, especially when compared to the venerated Neumann K...
The AE3300 is an unbelievable microphone that exudes its value before you even sing into it. It is clear, it's defined, it's warm. It seems to know exactly what you want to get out of it. If you have the money, I wholeheartedly suggest investing in it. Performing musicians spend unbelievable amounts of money on their speakers, gui...
The Audio-Technica AT2020 is a very solid microphone that is musically flattering and still very versatile. It's not a microphone I would buy right now, because of its big brother, the AT2035, offering slightly better sensitivity, a more flattering (in my opinion) frequency response, and a lower noise-figure, for just a bit more with a shockmoun...
