I bought this recorder early 2014 in order to make mobile recording in different environments, record sounds to incorporate into my music and capture rehearsals and concerts.

I had the Zoom PS-02 before. It was less ergonomic and had too many dispensable functions for me (backing tracks, composition tools sequencer). But I do not have the means to take a H4, probably better than the H1. I added a small kit of accessories: usb power adapter antipop foot, cable, carrying case.

This time the interface is well thought: the buttons are in their places and there was even a small sound switches to switch the recording format to another, activate a low-cut or turn the "auto level" function . There is even a tiny monitor to check if the record has no headphone on hand. This recorder does not take place and its use is elementary.

The recording quality is quite respectable, but not delusional either. It enough for me for the price and sprayed the recorder that I used before. I remake the choice without really hesitate ...

I use it for a few weeks.
Before I used an old (15 years!) MD recorder. It is much more compact and practical with integrated microphones. Recording directly to mp3, I win a lot of time to send the result to friends.
The plastic is a bit cheap but the device is ergonomic. With (98 € in Toto) accessory kit, there is an adapter for foot-friendly pickups.

Y microphones are great for restoring a folk guitar, placed face to 50cm. I find recording more beautiful than my ear had seen! I'll have to try on the voice.

For rehearsals, well played punk rock block, it's just a function of notepad. Microphones saturate quickly: they record but adapt, causing volume declines. Very serious sound (bass drum) or very high (cymbals) pass before everything else. By against all is audible and allows you to listen to correct its quirks.

I do not think it can be used for models, or only acoustic instruments. on the other hand, avoiding installing too close to the battery and avoiding playing too hard, you can achieve an audible recording, sound recording rehearsal for working with electric instruments. That was my goal.

I think the use for ambient taken live. A test.

I use the H1 regularly for 2 years, and it plays its role perfectly, whether for ambient taken with integrated microphones (bring a tripod or a pole if you hear the fingers rub against the hull holding has hand), or especially for small models by recording the output of a machine / mixer / anything that can make the mini jack.
I tried the H4n (but certainly more pro does it still need all that), which agree more to someone who would make the sound normalized for video or a group of acoustic musicians but the H1 is perfect to take in electronic jam or concerts / parties / informal interviews and other .. and for the price it makes a war machine that fear less damaging a pro recorder that costs 4 6 times more expensive.

I want to start off by letting you know that I did not purchase this mic with the intent to use it as a field recorder. I purchased it to capture better audio (vocal recording) for my film projects (that was the main goal).

After messing around with a bit I began to notice just how versatile the recorder actually was. I began carrying it with me everywhere : Store, park, bathroom (yea I know TMI) and even the recording studio.

It's actually a really nice field recorder especially for the price! I've only used 1-2 other field recorders besides this H1 Zoom and one of those just happen to be the H4 Zoom recorder.

In my opinion they don't sound very different. If you were to record 2 quality sound bites in the same environment and play them back to someone they'd have a hard time telling them apart.

What I don't like about this recorder is it's build... It's mostly plastic! But again, it's only $80.. I just wish it had a slightly better build but other than that I have no complaints.

I was able to get 10 hours of recording from a single AA battery!

I've used this little guy to record all sorts of different sounds: Car starting, milk pouring into a glass and even live gun shot sounds (with just the on board mic)

You can hook up other mics to this recording, but you'll need a 1/8 connection to do so.

I would recommend this field recorder to anyone who is looking to improve there audio for film recording (again vocals) as well as those who are looking or thinking about messing dipping into field recording on a budget.

If you plan on recording anything outside I would strongly suggest you use a dead kitten or another type of raggy textured wind diffuser (to kill background noise and wind sounds)

the zoom is not breathless but it's high volume acceptable. I am testing on voice and guitar to wav and it's really good. a little dry but also adpend orientation. you have to blunder placement. for voice talk I put the volume almost enr merits and does not saturate.
size is gniale, it is important not to use the hand is any noise reading to touch the foot of the gear they offer in the bundle is zero. Like any potential buyer, I read the opinion, and I say, I go!
No regrets, it performs the function to be asked, quite good quality and a great price ...
Ideal for storing improvisations, riffs, creations in rehearsal.

I use it for about 1 month.

What I like most: simplicity! I turn, I ask, I press record and hop, go! I bought the pack along with tripod, foam and mic stand adapter, but if you have it for a camera is the same.
What I like least: I once wanted to name the tracks recorded, the Zoom connected PC, and read through the zoom ... So, get used to the track numbers.
Obviously, some say they hear the sound when you press the record button .... blah! a sudden mixing of computer (Audacity, for example) and it's done!

I would do this choice, no problem.

I use this unit for 6 months.
Very easy to use, very convenient, very portable (my choice to this type of device being initially recorded soundscapes outdoors).
To render excellent (excellent value).
I admit I have not tried the other model, but I am completely satisfied with it.
The stereo effect is incredible. (I've taken used in my creations - reworked with a sound editor like Soundforge).
That said, we must be careful to wind and camera movement. Very sensitive microphones.
I know there is a tripod-foam kit that I might acquire considering the price.
I would do I think this choice.

Note: I use with rechargeable battery (2700 mA).
I does not use Low-Cut or Auto-level.

I had long zoom H2. he came home almost in my pocket and I recorded on the fly sounds useful (sound editing) and also memories

I find it more "solid" than the H2's attention is plasticky we agree. H2 but with time, some parts moved (plate decoration in front) then it looks like everything is more "integrated"
architecture that is lightweight and fits in your pocket. rapidement.bon easy to trigger all that you see on youtube videos.

for sound, it seems very correct. the handling noise is like the H2. must keep it light but firm for not too much noise. but must always activate the low-cut if handled.

I made recording acoustic guitar, dishwasher noise, noise, street cafe, fountain, restaurant ... well I'm super happy with the result. especially the acoustic guitar is well illustrated and full quilted.
it is so small that if you put a black bonnet top, next to a phone (flight mode) we can Chopper discrete sounds next to people.

Built for HP. sounds like a phone headset. the sound is very thin, no medium (or lower course) sound level as a phone so a bit limited if in a noisy environment.

tips mean the thread is made of plastic (!) nothing like the fuck if you screw too hard. and protection that hides the SD card opens very easily I almost wonder if mine was not a problem: p

I use the Zoom H1 last week, this is my first digital recorder, I only knew the stuff to tape, so the surprise is total ...

I took advantage of a promo launch for purchase with the accessories, all for 103 Euros. Stand, transformer, USB cable, pouch and are absolutely necessary. The wind (???).

It is clear that the price that attracted me. I was looking to register a small device, able to assess and correct pieces of music without breaking the bank.

From this point of view, the Zoom H1 amply fulfilled its mission. It is easy to use, 1 / 4 of an hour to go around, it helps to focus on music.

With the original card (2 GB) can store a roughly two hours to WAV, MP3 more, but I have not tried to get the best sound possible.
It is better to acquire a card with more capacity to be quiet, otherwise he must quickly copy the songs onto the computer to not get stuck.
The transfer is done without problem on Mac. Before plugging the appliance make sure it is off. It rises like any medium (hard disk) and files are easily accessible. If you plug the device when turned on, the Mac does not recognize it.

And there, very good surprise is nickel. The sound is a little surgical and cold, but there are perfectly each element, 2 voices and a guitar in my case.
But then the sound has been taken in its raw (no sound or effects) in my living room that did not necessarily an acoustic dream. But a slight EQ and some reverb in Garageband, and the song is nice warm. To try to better conditions in rehearsal studio ...

For now I am completely satisfied with this unit. It is true that it looks cheap and fragile but I think over the sound quality, it certainly had to compromise to propose an aggressive price, and maybe for a group that plays very strong electric , there may be problems including vibration because everything is plastic. Even though it looks like a bottle opener, do not try to open your cans with ...

To summarize:
- Start simple and ultra-fast.
- An ultra-compact, so the galley for big fingers.
- Information display simple but clear.
- The HP integrated shabby, it serves only to verify that the sound has been taken.
- Transfer files simple.
- Son, well, a bit cold but very distinct.
- Image stereo fine, print view each element in space (but we're just two).
- Map 2 gigabytes, just a bit.
- Strength, ouch, ouch, ouch. It must be very careful, accessories are absolutely necessary, and personally, I will avoid carrying around in your pocket.
- Value for money: 9 / 10 for sound, 9 / 10 for design (design and ease of use), 5 / 10 or 4 / 10 for strength, again the camera looks fragile and it is better good habits early.

Conclusion:

If your budget is tight and you need a recorder to work reliably (at her) to lug around, the Zoom H1 will quite the case. For a small musical training, I think there are even using something out via the correct type GarageBand software, but it is the "small" model.
Just look at the prices on the net to realize that for a device more complete, more solid, more powerful, it will take at least double the price ...

EDIT 21/10/2010: Someone from Mogar (distyributeur the french) I confirm the problem, so you can make you change your ZOOM H1 if it eats the battery even complexion!

Plus: The sound is simply excellent. By recording the best possible quality and with a small tower in garageband Galise for a bit and standardize, we made quite a Coutable with high volume. It is a be regulated.

minimum: The plastic shell is super thin and fragile, nothing seems to hold, it's very very cheap ... the buttons are hard caught, you have to press hard on it. happily that everything is very simple. another less: handling noise are very laid back in the recording. do not expect to get a usable recording and taking the H1 own hand like a microphone ...

I vote "very good" and not perfect because of the manufacture more than limit (extreme fragility. Cot sound, it's very heavy.

I do not advocate independence that could not even test the machine.
