The Korg Electribe ES1 is a great machine to use with sampling, not as good as the MPC line of productions though in my opinion but it does the trick and its pretty cheap as well. Got one for 350 about two years ago on eBay.

UTILIZATION

In addition, and something has noted, the samples are stored compressed (ADPCM encoding a Likelihood, a kind of sigma delta used in telephony), and this compression is destructive, ie a bit like the mp3 sample is not kept 100% original It has deteriorated to be stored. It feels a little on sound quality, especially on the harmonically rich sounds in time (voice, etc. ...).
This is extremely disturbing in itself, but is noteworthy because it gives color to the sound, very popular Tribers elsewhere.

SOUNDS

The entrance is in good, the record is clear, the conversion is done without color which is appreciable. The sampling rate is lower than a CD and you can feel on the treble. Typically above 14kHz there's more much. Damage to the hats. I do my most difficult but useful for a sampler is, stereo input, effects,

OVERALL OPINION

Configuration is quick and easy. No sub menus.
The pads are very pleasant to the touch and the machine responds to tit for tat. For quelqun like me from the world's PC giant
98.3 seconds sample is more than enough to cope. Contrary to what has been said in other posts, a smart media card can hold nine memory configure the bike, each time with 16 songs and 98.3 seconds per sample configure. Add to that samples parts for Trip to wav (up to 100 additional samples can be stored on the memory card and loaded the bike).
A configure (16 songs - 98.3 seconds of sample) to take max 4.5 Megs SM on the map. 9 configure ca therefore takes about 40 Megs 9 configure to complete - remains in place for 24 Megs of sample at 32kHz on a map 64 Megs. So that you can keep your SM still 12 minutes of additional samples at this frequency.
Used in "Cubase", 98.3 seconds is nothing I agree.

Although this little machine is loaded with features, it is missing a few critical components. First off, it does not allow you to chop up the slices so you have to use SmartMedia and chop it up on a computer. Also, you may only use one effect for all 12 triggers. Otherwise this is a tight little sampler. Motion sequence also allows you to create new melodies.

$400.00 USD

UTILIZATION

Read the manual! If you don't read the manual, you will probably get frustrated. Motion sequence is hard to learn but once you get the hang of it, you will be unstoppable. Slicing works best with drums. Otherwise, you could put together a dope pattern in a matter of minutes.

SOUNDS

The sound quality is good. The sample rate(3200)is OKAY. The effects are nice and the preset sample quality is way above par as far as some samplers go.

OVERALL OPINION

It is a plastic sampler with knobs that feel like you could break them off. It has a metal face but that is only for looks. Mine has been through much and it still works with no problems. It is build very well, however I don't know how durable it is but no problems so far.

This is a great sampler for beginners like myself. There are some limitations but don't give up because you will learn how to work around them. This would work well for learning about samplers and how they work. This thing is fun and easy to use and would be a great first sampler before an MPC.

This is great for a drum machine... I wasn't thinking of doing any DJ work or live performance before I got this, but I think I will be able to now (along with my DX100 :D)

Price paid

340

UTILIZATION

Super easy but... If you want to organize samples and keep the originals, it's really hard to do. You can't export samples in any normal formats. That is stupid. It took me 3 hours to organize the sounds.

Um, it's plastic.

SOUNDS

Sample rate isn't great, but it's hardly noticeable (32k). The actual SOUNDS are up to you (it's a sampler...). The low end comes out really great though, which is something hard to find with cheaper stuff.

OVERALL OPINION

It's a real tight piece of stuff.

32000 sample rate is corny

Price paid

$750 CDN

UTILIZATION

The manual is ok, the user interface is good.

buttons bend, but it is robust enough to use at a gig. I have never sought support.

SOUNDS

32000 sample rate is corny. This product is best used as a sketch pad or a midi controller, not to put samples to disk or tape. The effects are also corny

OVERALL OPINION

Though limited, this machine is my arranging sketch pad. I make music like a mosaic, composed completely of small samples taken from my life. loading cleaned, cut and pitched samples via a smart card is easy. then arranging with this machine is portable, fast and fluid. the results can be saved and re-created in protools or any other tracking device.

Nice features, everything I expected. no surprises..

Price paid

$400

UTILIZATION

Everything is layed out well, except the knobs are kind of.. too close together. manual explains almost everything.

it's nice, except the only thing getting in the way of a live show are the knobs. they're too close together.. it's too easy to bump another knob out of value while twiddling m4d h4rdk0re with the delay or something. oh, and the buttons are rubbery, so the numbers will eventually rub off of them. and they get all sticky after using it for some time.

SOUNDS

Samples are recorded at 38khz, pretty low. slight distortion compared to 44khz, nothing big. the effects aren't the best. you can only apply one effect at a time, and it has to be the same effect. (this is the reason i've decided to return it, i'm big on effects)

OVERALL OPINION

It's really good except for the knobs and effect issues i stated above. i've returned it. you know.

I acquired this unit because I felt like I wanted to update the sound of my drums and add some groove to it, since i was only using Jeskola's Buzz and some drum samples for my drumming. I got the drum machine at guitar center for about five-hundred dollars.

The Unit is great because there are tones of fresh samples and ten effects that sound great, as well as delays, and preset loops. It has room for more samples to be added and up to ninty seconds of recording time. Its coolest feature in my opinion, though, is that when another drum loop is put into the machine, the es-1 automatically cuts it up, so you can screw around with it more. You can also add swing to the beats as well, adding more of a human element to the drumming.

Its hard to add more than one effect to a track, and adding delay to one certain part of the drumming is dificult as well.

Its a durable little thing, compact and also eye catching.

A great piece for anybody who can't play drums and wants to have something that sounds professional and catchy as well. Very easy to work, and it looks nice too.

For specifications, visit the page on the electribe audiofanzine :)

UTILIZATION

This machine is super simple and devilishly effective, just a few hours for already mumuse avec.Les electribe have always had this side "easy to use" that can make very good stuff if you put your nose longtemps.Malheureusement The memory is really too small for a sampler.

SOUNDS

The sound is clean, but we recognize the Korg sound good, either love it or you love.

OVERALL OPINION

I used it for a year tite, particularly to the tribe / hardtek....mais the memory too small frustré.Pour me start in the live machine is ideal :)

Audio input and output, MIDI IN / OUT / THRU
a small sampler with lots of effects
for use rytme and Rhythmic

UTILIZATION

Suber use playful, very easy, with all in real time, a simple manual
no small regret sysex midi, I even contact the importer and nothing KORG

SOUNDS

Do not look for a realistic sonoritée, everything is in with a deformer sonoritée METALLIC very special, to be used sparingly in your compositions, but give a little more.
good fun and very small effects can be especially fun and an audio input or you can play with instruments, voice or other real-time

OVERALL OPINION

I bought 8 years ago, and I keep
for a game to play a very particular sound was clean this machine has put in his compound in homeopathic doses
it's a great little machine and cheap is a plus

Everything has been said already except that the total duration of sampling is exactly 98.3 seconds. And not 95 as stated in the manual or 85 as stated in another opinion.

In addition, and something has noted, the samples are stored compressed (ADPCM encoding a Likelihood, a kind of sigma delta used in telephony), and this compression is destructive, ie a bit like the mp3 sample is not kept 100% original It has deteriorated to be stored. Used in "Cubase", 98.3 seconds is nothing I agree. But if you use it as a sampler - which are the aim Ed - to do loops and mix them in patterns, ca is more than enough to make beautiful PERFOS live.
You just learn to use the card SM

SOUNDS

Next bank of sounds, well it was your turn, it's a sampler !!!!!!
The term is limited because, in fact, banks and other effect automations are unique pattern which limits good anyway. Impossible in an even pattern to a large fazer a bass loop by compressing a kick too deaf. ONE ONE purpose and automation with a single accent pattern by ... drive.
The effects are of variable quality. Good nice for fazer, while the reverb sucks ...
The delay is good but only on the master, which is too stupid ...
In fact this bike is a part of empty canvas. Take your brush (samples) and color patterns.

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for a week.

What I like most: The machine interface, the feeling in hand. It's like a giant toy.

What I like least: The effects are uneven and no possibility of routing delay which is really bad.

But nothing prevents, I love this bike!

I do it again if I had that choice and I will buy a sub ESX-1 but hey that's another story.
If it again I will do (180 E Used)
