Fender Super Twin ReverbPublished on 03/06/07 at 11:29
(This content has been automatically translated from French)
Blackface Super Reverb Twin Amp, 180W RMS tube (11) made from late 1977 to early 1980. Version of vitamin Twin Reverb with two HP 6x6L6 exitant ElectroVoice EVM12L 103dB/1W/1M giving a performance.
Two footswitchable channels. With a normal and a "distortion" integrated, rather a saturation dosed tube preamp in the final stage.
Two pedals with the first one on / off switch and reverb on the second two switches, one for saturation and for the commissioning of the equalize. A manual switch on it can boost the volume of dB.volt 6 (+3 dB power)

The settings are common to both channels:
Volume (in bright pull) Treble, Middle, Bass, Presence.

The settings are common to both channels:
Volume (in bright pull) Treble, Middle, Bass, Presence.
    Determination of reverb
    Equaliser asset (a floor lamp) of 5 frequencies: 100Hz, 235Hz, 485Hz, 1250Hz, 2300Hz
Saturation intensity (with on / off switch on the knob)
    Master.

Special model (on order) with a key switch in the back.
Recording output / line is connected to the secondary of output transformer via a resistor, which can reproduce the sound of the amp before HP.

    UTILIZATION

What is surprising for a tube amp is the total silence of operation. Means just the slight vibration of the power transformer. One branch (in my case HR) and it sounds.
Volume 4 (3) * and master in 5 (4) *, equivalent to the Twin power! * (The potentiometers are engraved with 1 to 10, new to the home 7ender 0!)
It's the sound of the Twin Reverb, the more power and vibrato replaced by a "distortion-saturation" assayable.
In short, the clear sound of the Twin Reverb.
Equalizer settings associated with passive Bass, Middle, Treble, Presence, can achieve the sound you want.
The manual is what is more succinct. We can do without!

    SOUNDS

Used with a Gibson Howard Roberts Fusion II and Epiphone Howard Roberts archtop vintage electro (by Gibson), I play mostly blues and jazz. I was looking for a clear emphasis on the expression of these instruments. The Super Twin Reverb is perfect for me.

With these guitars and playing the instrument settings-amp, no additives, you get sounds ranging from Kenny Burrell to Pat Metheny through Aldi Meola, Larry Carlton, not to mention John Campbell, and J. Waters Mudy between Lee Hooker others.

The dynamic is amazing. Changes from pianissimo to fortissimo are transcribed perfectly.

    OVERALL OPINION

This amp has a phenomenal power able to play without sound on small stages or clubs or avoiding the recovery in the returns of larger scenes.
The distortion is more of a crunch to saturation giving low. What is remarkable is that it acts on the frequency preferred by the equalize.

Purchased from a German radio station that used in the recording studio and live on air, with its dedicated Flycase Fender.

Finally, it is a Twin Reverb with two supercharged and vibrato channels replaced by a saturation, which is not bad.

It weighs weight: 55Kg, 75 in the Flycase, but no free lunches.

I was looking for a Twin Reverb for a long time and I fell on this occasion.
I do not regret my choice.

Fender Super Twin ReverbPublished on 01/07/11 at 11:53
The Fender Super Twin Reverb is a guitar amplifier made in the late 1970's that is a follower of the classic Fender Twin Reverb amps. Being that this version is 'Super,' it has a number of features and controls not found on regular Twin Reverb amps, although I don't prefer this to the originals. Like all Twin Reverb amps, it's got 2 12" speakers. It has 180 watts of power with six 6L6 tubes in it as well as a 7025 preamp tube. Of course the amp has built in spring reverb, as well a distortion which isn't something found on other Twin Reverbs. It has two 1/4" input jacks in the front as well as a footswitch and speaker out jacks in the back.

    UTILIZATION

The Fender Super Twin Reverb has a lot of controls, more than it's predecessor in the earlier Twin Reverbs. Included on the front panel of controls are knobs for volume, treble, middle, bass, presence, a series of five more EQ knobs, distortion, and lastly overall output level. It's definitely nice to have this much control, and even so I don't think the manual is necessary, although I've not seen it for myself.

    SOUNDS

The Fender Super Twin Reverb has a superb overall sound, but it's hard to live up to the name Twin Reverb in my opinion! Don't get me wrong, this is a great amplifier - I just prefer the silver face and earliest black face models over this one. There's a lot you can do with this amp due to the added EQ controls and distortion, but as for getting straight clean sounds, this isn't my favorite Twin Reverb. The reverb is great and much like the other Twins, and the distortion is definitely nice to have as well. This will give you a great tube amplifier sound, which is really the bottom line here regardless of it's predecessors.

    OVERALL OPINION

The Fender Super Twin Reverb is a great tube amplifier that can be had for a decent amount less when compared to the Twin Reverbs that came before it. While not as great as those amps, the Super Twin has a great sound in it's own right and brings a lot to the table. It's great to have in the studio because of it's in depth versatility that you don't get with other Twins. Definitely check out the Super Twin Reverb if you come across one, but if you're looking for a true Twin I'd recommend the silver face versions or the original black faces...
