Vestax PMC-05ProIV

The Vestax PMC-05 Pro IV is a 2 channel mixer that supports MIDI. This was my “road warrior” mixer for a while because it was built very tough. I didn’t have any case for it when I was using it a lot and it got banged around many times but it always kept working. Nothing ever happen to it aside from a few scratched on the exterior of it that didn’t affect the performance of it at all.

UTILIZATION

Setting up this mixer is very simple, you can use it on a Mac as long as you are running a newer version of OS X and on a PC I know you need to have at least VISTA to get best performance out of it, but it will work with Windows XP but it seemed a little glitchy to me in XP.

SOUNDS

This mixer does have on board EQ (3band) but no effects. There really weren’t many features that made me love this mixer but it worked great and never failed to deliver. You pay for quality with a mixer like this. All of the knobs, buttons, and sliders are very well made and after heavy use they will not wear out at all!

OVERALL OPINION

I have battled with this mixer about 5 times and never have I been disappointed with using it. I have really put a lot of use to the cross fader and normally on mixer my cross fader will really wear out after a lot of battles. But this cross fader is still holding up strong. The mixer is now my main battle mixer, I do not battle all of time but when I do I take my PM5 – 05 and let it handle my aggressive mixing. The audio output is also very good with this mixer. I would not buy this again if I wasn’t a battling DJ mainly because of the price and lack of features.

I've always had Gemini tables (lack of means). We can say that the quality and the difference jumps to the ears: EQ that really kill, not breathing.

BUT negative and not least, phono preamps are REALLY SHITTY, let me explain: I was listening mainly Hip-Hop U.S. with my turntables Gemini (yes again!) And buying this table I have move at the same time the digital mix with Traktor. The sound was so superior to vinyl I started to ask me if it came from the cable quality of my turntables, my poor pregnant ... I bought monitor speakers M-Audio BX8-D2, changed câcbles a turntable ... The result was the same! Then I had the idea of ​​putting my old Gemini table between the plate and the line of Vestax input to facilitate scratch. And where was my surprise to find the right sound of vinyl.

The sound of turntables via the phono input is "stale" and no way to recover it with EQ. The only way is to not have to use these entries, for me it will be turntables Audio-Technica with a switchable output Phono Line, hoping that the pre-amp will be of good quality (like the Gemini table). This table almost disgust me the vinyl and make my favorite CD!

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for 2 years, I had 2 tables Gemini before in 12 years.

Pros: The slide faders, settings, EQ that really kill the sound in general

The -: The phono preamps with their even worse than those of a Gemini

The mixed (+ / -) button to switch the preview to Master does not block me because I do not use it, but if that was the case ...

So in the end, this is a board for the mix hip-hop / Battle digital, listening to pure vinyl, it will be equipped (hybrid deck, outdoor pre-amp)

Good Q / P ratio, I would do this choice, anyway my turntables are old and christmas approach lol

UTILIZATION

The general configuration is simple as the manual and its usual functions.
I use Traktor Scratch Pro 2 and it's perfect, you can easily assign the pads for cues and loops.
The crossfader is just PERFECT!

Super sound EQ is very effective, it introduces a small breath when pushed too

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for 2 days and I am completely satisfied with the look, sound, features of this mixer are at the top!
I mix mainly DnB and Footwork while scratching regularly and fulfills all its tasks without any problems.
Its peculiarity I say assigning cues points, the scroll, its crazy crossfader, its functions and its DVS it out!
I previously used a PMC-06, HAK 310, Xone 22 and PMC-05 Pro III VCA.
Good value and yes with experience report I remake that choice without worries!

OVERALL OPINION

Used 2 months. I tested the previous models, plus TTM 57 and djm 909 (my current table)

Pros:
- Nice table (black)
- And solid buttons accessible
- Good eq
- Cross exceptional .... And I c what I mean
- MIDI controllers

Cons:
- Faders (vertical so)
- Lack of midi controller for my taste, there are two layers, it would take three possibilities given the assignment of soft dj
- Cue Headphone switch / Master not practical in my opinion a simple mini to cross cue master would be more effective to quickly switch which is handy for those like me who likes to mix in the headphones to control the mix in some cases. The one we were put rotary wastes time in the open or mix pass pass quickly .... And other situations where we must go fast.
