« Could Be Better »
Published on 04/15/11 at 16:52I bought this new on special for around $390 or so. It came with four Celestion G12H-30 speakers and is set at 8 ohm resistance. I liked the price the best. I bought this cab to use for light touring and gig use so I could leave my more expensive cabs at home.
The cabinet is made out of 13-ply Birch plywood and has a jack on the back that allows you to daisy chain other cabinets to it. It is very well built and held up nicely for what I bought it for.
Overall, I did not like the sound of this cab. It sounded cardboard"y" and boxy. Other reviews I have read attribute this to the lack of depth dimension that other standard sized cabs have.
At the time I owned this, I also owned a VHT fatbottom 4x12, Splawn 4x12, an Earcandy Buzzbomb 2x12, a Mojotone 3x12 cab and had played through Marshall 1960B's extensively. They all sounded better than this cab.
I would not make the same choice if I had to again. I would have kept the money and taken the VHT or my 2x12 to play shows.
I would also like to check out the Vintage and Contemporary designs. They seem to be of "correct" dimensions and the reviews I have read on those have been very positive.
The less than standard pricing on this cab has led to a less than standard sound in my opinion. Better to spend a little more for a lot nicer sound.
If you do not get these on special, you can order all cab styles in a wide variety of color combinations, speakers and various ohm ratings to match the perfect cabinet to whatever amplifier you’re connecting it to.
