Dean Resonator

Dean Guitars Resonator GCEPublished on 03/27/04 at 15:00
While browsing Instrumental Music in Ventura, CA noticed the Dean resonator and upon playing it, had to have it! Had the nasty "delta" sound for slide work that I had been after. Paid $350 i think. Traded in a cheap Johnson resonator that paled by comparison.

Has a big sound that barely needs amplification in a solo club setting. Is versatile enough for slide, chording, or arpeggio (lead) work. Very versatile, with a "lipstick" pickup and usable volumt and tone controls. Comes with Grover tuning machines which are wonderful.

Neck angle to the body required fret filing to get the action and playability right. This left barely enough string tension to transmit through the bridge to the cone. Originally fitted with Elixir polyweb strings which muted the sound and really cut down the sustain, already a problem with resonators as a class.

Grover tuners, mahogany body, back, sides, top, and neck. Rosewood fingerboard, aluminum cone, chrome plated brass cone cover. Interior construction was just OK, but acceptable for a guitar of this type and price.

Great value for money. Gives that special sound for blues, slide, and special acoustic songs that benefit from that almost-a-banjo tone.
