Published on 06/25/01 at 15:00I purchased this amp in the summer of '98 because I needed a good amp in order to hear my acoustic over the drummer in our garage band. I ordered it online at www.carvin.com, for about $450. It showed up about 4 weeks later.
I like this amp because with the right EQ tweaking it actually sounds like an acoustic guitar signal. Most of the electric guitar amps I've fed my Ovation through make it sound like a tinny electric with a lot of midrange. This one is great. It's also very versatile. Not only is it a great acoustic guitar amp, it makes electrics sound great, it's bass-guitar-capable, and it has an XLR microphone input! With its three independent channels, It's like having a "Combo PA."
There is nothing I don't like about this unit.
This amp has taken a beating in the 2+ years I've had it, and the only thing that shows for it is the two knobs I've broken off, and some scratches on the sides and back. One minor note: About a year and a half after I got this amp, it needed some re-soldering in the inside. It has been fine since.
Basically, this amp kicks ass. It's great for just about any application at all. It's perfect for singer/songwriter or coffeehouse applications. At 100 watts, it can handle 2 instruments and a mic and still put out some good volume.
