The Steinway & Sons Music Room Grand Model B acoustic piano is hands down the best acoustic piano that I have played or recorded with.  While Steinway has a reputation for being the best around, this instrument really lives up to its name as the sound is outstanding and the action on the piano couldn't make it any easier to play.  The piano is great for all types of music, especially classical of course, but I have used it for recording rock and pop songs and it sounds great for that as well.  Of course I don't own one of these as I've simply had the pleasure of using it in a recording studio and every time that I've used it the sound has impressed it more and more.  As far as recording, I've found that placing a large diaphragm condenser microphone in the center of the strings like a Neumann U 87 and putting two small diaphragm condensers on the high and the low like KM 184s will get a full bodied sound across the spectrum.  Of course if you don't have access to these mics (which you should have something comparable if you are using this piano!), any large and small diaphragm condensers placed in this way will do the trick.  I really can't say enough about the immaculate sound quality that the Steinway & Sons Music Room Grand Model B has and to this day I haven't heard a better acoustic piano.  If you have the chance to buy or use the Steinway & Sons Music Room Grand Model B, you must take advantage!  Not only does the piano have an incredible sound and feel, but the look of the piano is also incredible and this piano will really last longer than a lifetime as long as you don't smash it!  All in all, the Steinway & Sons Music Room Grand Model B acoustic piano is a special instrument that is among the best of its kind.
