Nice Monitors for cheap

Fostex PM-1 MkIIPublished on 11/01/11 at 12:51

I used the Fostex PM MKII’s on a few mixes over the last year or so. I feel they're great! No matter if you’re a hobbyist or a professional you will enjoy the clarity of sound that the Fostex PM MKII‘s provide. For such an affordable price these speakers sound amazingly good. I know lack of bass is a general complaint on speakers this size, but they seem to put out enough for me. I was choosing between the M-Audio BX5A's and these. The BX5A's had a little two much high end for my taste, and the MKII’s just sounded more balanced. I also like the volume and high frequency knobs on the back of the speakers which allow you to tweak the sound for your recording environment

SOUNDS

For near field monitors these are fantastic! I just bought a pair today and am very impressed. If you need accurate sound for your personal studio at home or for near fields in your larger studio, go with these. They give a very accurate sound, I'm still adjusting to the difference from my previous speakers, but already I can hear things that I hadn't before. It's going to be a great help to have these.

OVERALL OPINION

Overall, I like their flat response, and the front port design for the bass response. This helps you to really get a great handle on the bass frequencies, even with monitors of this size. I am very satisfied with my using these any time I get a chance to go to that studio that has them! Try them, you will like them, they are very affordable on almost any budget. They look great and sound even better. With all black design its very stylish and sleek in the studio. These active monitors give that clear sound and some “punch” for those wobbly baselines and sub baselines. They even make real live instruments sound crisp with out even having to use a lot of eq.

I connected the monitors in a balanced XLR audio Native Instruments Audio Kontrol 1. I use this configuration for the production of electronic music with Ableton Live 6.

SOUNDS

I'm really not a sound engineer, my only point of comparison Tapco S8 monitors are my best poto. Well, frankly I do not trade it for anything! The sound is really clear, detailed, nothing to do with a living room stereo, either.

OVERALL OPINION

Bah, what to say, need to listen and compare to get his own personal opinion but I I'm happy. Maybe I should take a little more powerful pm2 for a price only slightly higher but hey do not worry, there are already more than enough power to annoy your neighbors if...…

The signal-noise and THD motivated my choice, because the manufacturer also manufactures its own transducers, they are bi-amplification, and the brand is rpute several years in the pro audio world. Finally the price china low cost.
To use a semi pro, taken, and mixes.
Configuration: a dual processor and a macbook soundcard Focusrite Saffire in FW.

SOUNDS

No curve is not sufficiently neutral, the flat bottom is the medium, however, remains cohrent trs. The image is stro trs good notament to mix (IMHO). The dytnamique is impeccable, lacks a little sub for the cost of vinyl (70's rock). To say that the sound is clear is of course completely subjective, but for my personal use I...…

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for 2 ½ years. The green is a chouyilla too discreet. The black lacquer finish is not great, check the centering of the boomer purchase, the Chinese bossent fast but little sleep. Other models of studios t essays. (Krk, yamaha, centry ..)
The ratio quality price is excellent!
And this choice I would do less than my budget lets me glimpse the range pro.
