The KRK Rokit 5 G2’s are a monitor that get a lot of good reviews. I can understand why they get a lot of good reviews too. I think its mainly because of the listening sound of these. Most people mistake listening sound with mixing and mastering sound. If you listen to music with these they will bring you great joy just because they have a full thick sound. But when it comes to mixing and mastering your work with them I don’t recommend it. They are very low end based and they seem to have too much natural bass for me. It was difficult to really get the bass right in mixes with them. This is not true for all KRK monitors but just the G2’s didn’t work to well for me .

SOUNDS

As I stated they low end in these didn’t work good for me. The KRK 8’s most people think have to much bass and can get muddy but I think its all how you have yours set up. I hated how I got a muddy sound in these G2’s. I don’t feel like monitors this small should pump out muddy bass when turned up.

OVERALL OPINION

Overall, there are way to many other monitors in this same price range that can give you better quality than these can. But as I stated if you are just listening to music then this will sound great. They remind me something for a college kid who is doing some DJ type of stuff with is laptop they would be great for that. But as far as trying to get a master piece of quality and mixing with the KRK G’2s they didn’t work for me. The response just wasn’t flat enough or maybe just wasn’t what I was use to since it really helps for you to understand your monitors. I didn’t take the time to get to know these.

KRK Rokit 5 G2

KRK RP5 G2Published on 06/21/10 at 15:00
I’ve recently tried these KRK monitors. They are the less expensive ones made by this company. I was exactly looking for that, affordable with good quality home studio monitors. I was looking to have a somehow reliable monitoring of my recordings without having to spent over $500, I think If have to spent that much money I might as well go all the way and buy Dynaudios, which I believe are the best in the market today.

You can get these new for a price around $150 each. Look on ebay though, you will be able to get a pair for $200.

I think these are really good monitors for the price you pay, you can’t expect much from a 5” speaker anyway. They have plenty of power and specially bass. I almost think they actually are a little two bassy, what really impressed me. I would never expect that from such small monitors. These are great for hobbists and those who are stating their home studios.

A tad too bassy for my taste, it makes loose clarity.

Well built monitors, they can handle and do a lot more than you can expect.
These are the spec of the Rokit 5 G2:
Woofer: 5' Glass Aramid Composite Woofer
Tweeter: 1' Neodymium Soft Dome Tweeter with Ferro Fluid
Input: XLR (3-pin), RCA and 1/4' TRS - 10k Ohm, Balanced / Unbalanced
Amplification: 75 Watt Bi-amp Dynamic Power, 18 dB Octave Filters
Frequency Response: 53Hz - 20kHz
Dimensions (H x W x D): 10 7/8' x 7 1/4' x 9 7/8' 27.6cm x 18.5cm x 25cm

Great choice if you are starting your home studio, affordable with great quality.

Great value for money

5" speaker, 30W LF, 15W HF, frequency response: 53Hz-20kHz. RCA, XLR and 1/4" jack inputs.

I bought these for use as studio monitors at home, as well as for listening music and TV. I did an A/B test with these against the larger Rokit models as well as the Genelec 8020's. These seemed more pleasing to the ear overall, the Genelecs would possibly be better for exclusively mixing work.

SOUNDS

The Genelecs did sound a bit clearer but not enough to justify the price difference. The larger KRK models seemed to have very farty and muddy bass response compared to the smaller ones. The bass frequencies are a bit soft on these but you could get a subwoofer to fix that.

OVERALL OPINION

I think they're great value for the price. The only possible bad thing about them is that they're made of MDF I think, so they don't take a beating as well. If they broke I'd probably buy another pair of these. The sound is very good except for the soft bass. They're also prone for making noises if you have a laptop plugged into the same extension cord.

VERY good

KRK RP5 G2Published on 06/17/11 at 19:30
The reason that i am writing this review is because these are the only speakers i bought, and the only that were recommended for me. When i asked others about what studio monitors to buy, they all said Rokit speakers. So this is what i went for. These are incredibly easy to set up and because the they are active (self-powered) speakers, you won't have to worry about finding or hooking up a separate, matching power amp. The Rokit's internal amplifier ensures maximum driver efficiency for tons of crystal-clear headroom and instant studio integration. These speakers are the perfect studio monitors for any home or professional recording studio.

They feature:

- Radically curved front plate design virtually eliminates diffraction distortion
- Waveguide design provides amazing detail and imaging
- Front-firing port provides low freq extension without boundary coupling
- New speaker voicing for even more accurate frequency response
- 1-inch Neodymium soft dome tweeter
- Glass Aramid Composite Cone Woofer

SOUNDS

In my honest opinion, these are the best sounding speakers i have ever heard. The KRK Rokit RP5G2 is the next evolutionary step in a long line of successful and respected professional and home studio monitoring products. The sound is clear and crisp, perfect sounding. These monitors, like most studio monitors, have the ability to maintain a flat response. These speakers however pack a punch. When they start playing, and it gets loud, you'll never want to turn them off. Also, they look pretty sweet! With the center speaker yellow and the rest black, these will add style to your studio!

OVERALL OPINION

Overall, these speakers are the bomb! Literally! For the price, why wouldn't you buy them? For only $120 each, its an offer you can't refuse! These are the only speakers i have ever used, and i am not planning on using any others. I am happy with my choice and i am telling you GO WITH THESE SPEAKERS!!!!!!
