Excellent

I was looking for a pair of good, rugged and affordable compact monitors for my brother who is a musician and wants to build his own home studio.
I wanted a compact and affordable product with controls for room adaptation.
SOUNDS
Compared to a pair of Genelec 1030, I cannot say they sound linear but I was surprised by the presence over the whole frequency spectrum. Don't expect a well-defined low-end (5" woofer), and the high frequency response becomes exhausting after a while. The sound details are not so fine as with the Genelec but they have a good sound definition. The price difference between KRK and Genelec is considerable.
The stereo imaging is very pleasant.
The output power is limited but it's enough for most applications.
OVERALL OPINION
As I already said, I bought them as a present and I wanted to compare them with the Genelec.
I like very much the manufacturing quality and the overall sound over the whole frequency spectrum.
I relied on Audiofanzine reviews and comments of my friends about KRK to buy them. I also tested a pair of Prodipe Pro5 as well as Yamaha HS50M, and I found the KRK have a more balanced sound.
The value for money is very good.
I haven't had them enough time so I can't really say if I would buy them again or not.
