Digidesign's AIR Non-Linear Reverb is a unique software reverb plug-in that is only available with Pro Tools 8. New with Pro Tools 8 comes a new interface, new features, and a whole slew of new free plug-ins, most of them under the AIR name, which stands for Advanced Instrument Research. You don't really need to do any installing of the AIR Non-Linear Reverb, as it does so when you install Pro Tools 8 on your system. The interface of the plug-in is as simple as possible, as I think the idea with these AIR plug-ins was to make them as easy as possible to use so that new Pro Tools users could easily get adjusted to them. While it is laid out simply, it still does offer up a good amount of versatility, including parameters for pre delay, dry delay, reverb diffusion, reverb, width, reverb time, and mix. There are also both low and high cut features with adjustable frequencies and a button to put the whole thing into reverse. I don't think that you'll need a manual, and I don't believe that they make one anyway for this plug-in.

SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

I'm currently running the Digidesign AIR Non-Linear Reverb plug-in on a Mac Book Pro that has a 2.2 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 4 GB of RAM. I run Pro Tools LE 8 with a Digi 002R audio interface, and really can't say I've ever had a problem using this plug-in within my home configuration. I've also used this plug-in on a Pro Tools HD system, but not as much as on my home rig. While I always run my reverb plug-ins on an auxiliary channel to save processing power, even if you didn't do so I think you'd be able to run a good number of these within a single session granted that you have a decent enough system to run Pro Tools in first place with some working plug-ins. I've only owned the plug-in and Pro Tools 8 for a month or two, but first used the plug-in when Pro Tools 8 first came out.

OVERALL OPINION

Overall, the Digidesign AIR Non-Linear Reverb is a very interesting plug-in that has a lot of awesome possible sounds and potential. It isn't your typical reverb at all, as it is more experimental than anything else - at least that's what I've found with it. It has a very clear sound and can produce a ton of really cool sounds. I wouldn't use it for any sort of traditional reverb uses, but if I'm looking for some spacious and/or out of the ordinary reverb like effects, this is the place I'll look. This is overall definitely one of my favorite AIR plug-ins, and the best part is that it is free if you have Pro Tools 8!
