SOUNDS

The Waldorf Q + ... how to say it? HUGE sound at any tearing. You can make bass sounds cut with machetes, pads bigger than all of Vangelis and Jarre Soundset gathered, weird noises and sounds etc etc etc.
There is the range of Q filters, and then they can direct to an analog filter or even use both simultaneously. There, the sound becomes warmer, also deaf, and resonance works miracles and hurt eardrums.
BUT: the original presets show that Waldorf has developed some specific sounds in Q +. There are many sounds of Q, which do not use the analog filters.
In addition, there are sounds very "old school" (like fans of Tangerine, without denigrating eh, but hey ... it is far from the sounds of a Virus TI latest).

OVERALL OPINION

I have this synth since September 2007, almost a year ago. Except ... he went almost four months in SAV in Waldorf.
This is where I want to stress one important point:
you see in this opinion it is a very good machine, with awesome sound etc etc, but we can not really recommend to anyone buying a Q + (Phoenix or not). Indeed, as usual on the machines of this brand, the OS is loaded with bugs, inconsistencies, problems and varied. Stupid example: you should not store its user sounds above a certain memory location, this could disrupt the flash memory of the synth ... Other examples: the allocation of effects that show the famous bug of the absence of notes with the filters analos which requires rebooting, not to mention the difficulty to synchronize the arpeggiator midi ... Short! The list is long, and at this price - higher still - we are right to say damn.
A very good (better late than never, you say): free circuits Waldorf change the Waldorf Q + Phoenix and with modest sum of those old Q + that could be a problem. This fixes some bugs audio, but not the bugs of the OS.
