Published on 03/03/11 at 00:50I purchased new in 1972 for radio Cibot 2200 F at the time. Never had a single problem in 40 years of use. I also had (sold) a Revox A77 and B77 I still have a (failed him!).
Although 4 tracks (Because Reverse), the Akai has excellent characteristics and once properly adjusted,
a signal / noise rather surprising for this model range. No crosstalk either. (And the head adjustment is childish and easily accessible.
Minimum: no registration in reverse, noisy mechanical and a little hard (like all of this generation Akai) ... but on the other hand, the dual-lever (record / play / stop - rewind av / ar / stop) cleverly overcomes the lack of control logic (as in B77 or Hencot) and avoid salads band ( like the A77 or the Teac from the same period).
Most: sound quality, compact size (it is very heavy but has a mini size (be careful, however, strips of 18 cm maximum), Fast Reverse, accepts many types of tape ... and above all, absolutely indestructible
