SWR Working Man 2004
Published on 11/13/05 at 15:00I have been playing guitar for about ten years, and recently started playing the bass about a year ago. I jam with some friends, but am not in a band at present. I listen to a variety of music including classic rock, Jazz, instramental, and a lot of Jam Band stuff.
I got this head for $300 on Ebay.
The controls are simple and precise. I really like the mute switch as well as the headphone jack and the extra space for a rack unit. It also sounds great. Its got a lot of power, and effects loop, and a direct line.
I am really happy with this amp.
This amp head is solid! Blue carpet covering with molded plastic corners. It has a side handle for carrying and is very stealth looking.

I really like this amp, it sounds great and has a lot of great features. It is hard to find a good new amp head for under $600 and this one is well under that, and I would have paid double for it. A+

UTILIZATION
Super simple setup (the manual gives different settings: rock - reggae - - studio - ...) - so easily get a good sound (+: The aural enhancer - clean SWR )
SOUNDS
I use an enclosure with SWR Goliath III JR - it is perfect for my style of music (POP, ROCK, ...).
I play on Warwick Streamer Jazzman and actually I love the effects (BOSS LMB-3 - BOSS ODB-3 - EHX Bass Big Muff - MXR M-188 - REDWITCH EMPRESS CHORUS - BOSS BF-3 -...). About me, I made many tests including using the loop (SEND - RETURN) with only the modulation effects (Chorus - Flanger - ...) but I am less convinced of the interest, I now put my whole chain effect before the preamp (in fact typical configuration ...).
The bass is accurate and the dynamics are good and there is no real sound that I hate ...
OVERALL OPINION
I therefore used since 2002 - before I played on a CRATE (COMBO) - the fact of having a head amp in rehearsal to carry it well (there are easily enclosure 200W / 400 W plug). I love the SWR sound. It is also a receiver easier to use and reliable.
At the time I had also purchased because there is a headphone jack ... I work every day but the headphone for four years now on a LINE6 BASS POD XT PRO (the amp simulation is practical in my case) - it serves me so that for rehearsals and as I 'm happy, I keep it. Note however that 200W is a little light: if I push the volume because the guitarist forgot to reduce his (friends bassists you understand me certainly), I'm fed up and I lose dynamic. When I decided to invest it will certainly SWR.See less10
