Unlike MIDI trigger pads, Gen16's AE Cymbals are “real acoustic cymbals that sound and respond just like a traditional cymbal, but play at less than a quarter of the volume, ” according to the company. A dual microphone system and digital signal processing is designed to enable the AE Cymbal to create a range of natural cymbal sounds without the use of sampling or MIDI, according to Gen16.
The AE Cymbal was one of several products introduced by Gen16 at NAMM. Other Gen16 products on display included the AE Rack, a new hardware system for acoustic and electric drums and percussion, the Digital Vault library of samples of Zildjian’s cymbals, the Groove Player app for iPad and iPhone, and the new Gen16Grooves.com online store.
You’ll find more information on Gen16 at www.gen-16.com or www.zildjian.com.
