Published on 11/30/01 at 15:00I walked into a pawn shop in Naniamo, British Columbia Canada with a musician friend of mine and found this awesome unit sitting on an amp. I like to think it was waiting there for me. I paid $150 Canadian for it and it is worth every penny.
The first thing that interested me about this unit was its ability to make space ship landing sounds (hehe). But after I had a chance to fiddle with it at home I realized what great tone this thing has. It really has a dynamic sound which is full and blows my Line 6 DL4 delay modeller out of the water.
The only thing that bugs me about the unit is when I plug it into the hi-gain input on my bluesbreaker it gives out a high pitched squeal like a TV does, since this squeal can only be heard when the effect is off I might get a true bypass mod put in it to get rid of the squeal. Also, the delay turns right off when the effect is deactivated, I wish it would trail off instead.
The unit is a table top unit, with rubber feet. It is also built like a tank, black metal construction, and huge fat knobs!!!
The front plate is plastic and has all the knobs in plane view there. It has a 1/4 inch input jack, 1/4 inch dry out, 1/4 inch wet out, and a footswitch jack. The knobs from left to right are: input level, delay time, repeat, delay level, and normal level. It also has an effect on/off toggle if you don't have a footswitch.
Overall, great unit. I would have liked to see an expression pedal for this unit but they never made one. The unit is quite old, early to mid eighties and is still works like a charm. I love it and would not part with it. If it was lost I would replace it, but I think I would be hard pressed finding another one like it. I guess they are pretty rare. If you find one, buy it, if you don't like it, I'll buy it from you.
