A direct box lamp (6Ni-P), large custom output transformer
Input combo jack / XLR, XLR output, output jack to send the signal thru untreated into the input of the amplifier while the output will be treated by the Reddi DAW or PA. Level knob that attenuates the output signal.
Advantage: contruite like a tank.
Inconvenient: 35cm long and not far from 5kg.

UTILIZATION

No difficulty is a DI ... As mentioned in previous notice, it must boil half an hour to get the big sound.

SOUND QUALITY

The SON! Once the low passed by this spring Reddi sound bigger and thick (but in no event less defined), warmer, slightly softened slightly attenuated highs are ... It is very simple sound that comes out to the class. I defied anyone a low branch in there not to round eyes upon hearing the result! I use it for recording and it is very simple, oubliee the coldness of a decision or lack DI classic definition of a transplanted taken the amp with the bass track Reddi is almost already mixed.

Note the level knob attenuates the output signal is therefore not intended as input to a boost to ignite the lamp, it is not its purpose.

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for a year and a half. Before I used a SansAmp BassDriver (very nice but nothing to see). I love that I say I love the sound that gives this DI my bass. The Reddi is not transparent at all, but for those who want the lamp and sound a bit to the old ... Since I heard the sound that comes out of the box, I can not imagine for a moment return to something else!

The A-Designs REDDI is a all tube direct box that has a level control on it as well as a ground lift. The price of the A-Designs REDDI is more expensive than the earlier models from this company but it is well worth the money. The A-Designs REDDI is well built and will give you a great tone for your bass. The color of it is bright red which really is not appealing to me but that has nothing to do with the way that the A-Designs REDDI performs. It has a dual triode 6N1P tube and a toroidal power transformer. It will give you a large amount of gain that you need for multiple applications or instruments.

UTILIZATION

The A-Designs REDDI is easy to set up and to use, it takes no effort at all to use it and set it up. The A-Designs REDDI weighs less than 10 pounds and has a frequency response from 20 Hz to 60 kHz.

SOUND QUALITY

The A-Designs REDDI is very transparent and gives you a bright but still warm sound. It is built to last you a long time, I should know because I have dropped this thing about 10 times in the last year alone and it has not stopped working yet, it has only left scrapes and scuffs on the metal casting of the A-Designs REDDI.

OVERALL OPINION

Overall there are a lot of similar devices like this on the market; you will need to do some research to find the one that is right for you and in your price range. The Radial ProD8 is similar to the A-Designs REDDI. But the A-Designs REDDI is much better because of the sound that it gives you. If you are thinking about getting the A-Designs REDDI and are worried about spending the 750 that it cost, then don’t worry because you will get your money’s worth in no time!

DI is an analog tube (a 6NP1) with a transformer (Cinemag output if I remember correctly).
It has an unbalanced input combo jack / XLR, XLR balanced output to an output and through (which only shows the signal as it is entered).
It has only one potentiomettre level (the signal always comes back to - 16 db - and serves attenuator knob).
There is an adapter for rack REDDI two side by side.
For DI, its size and weight are impressive, and it's solid.
It is also equipped with a blue LED so powerful that can shut off all the lights in the studio.

UTILIZATION

Once connected it is sufficient to adjust the level. Its use could not be simpler.

SOUND QUALITY

DI is a specially designed to record low (the manufacturer referred to the sound of the Ampeg B-15 Portaflex in its design) but it also works great with guitars on which it softens the highs too aggressive (I've never used a keyboard but I heard she was doing very well on this type of instruments).

The sound that comes out is thick, punchy, warm and well defined. It colors the sound of a very pleasant way through the very musical harmonic distortion, while meeting the beautifully sound of the instrument.

I use a MusicMan Stingray known to produce a sound huge, but even relatively cold metal. Once I passed through the low REDDI sound becomes even bigger but also warm and silky. In short, I feel I play a Stingray tube.

OVERALL OPINION

I use it since August 2009.
Usually I record a direct without treatment (other than a low-cut filter at 20Hz), then I double the track and apply treatments (simulation MarkBass amp, EQ, compression, saturation ...) only the second track. Then I mix the sound tracks of the two obtained by focusing, in terms of volume, track untreated. And, honestly, it sounds!

Before I had a bass pod xt with which I could produce a sound mushy difficult to place in a mix. DI if not outright, I already use the entries Hiz my sound card (blah) and I just tried the Avalon U5 DI excellent but tended to increase the side of my cold and metallic Stingray.

What I like most: the big sound, ease of use.
What I like least: it must be heated laiseer at least half an hour before use if you want big sound.

I bought it brand new 650 euro in Brussels. it may seem expensive, but frankly I advise all bass players to try it. This is the best investment I made for my home studio. In 30 years, it will certainly be one of the most sought after vintage gear.

A-Designs' REDDI is an awesome tube direct input box. I don't know all the specific information about it's insides, but it does have two 6N1P tubes in it. The box takes power using a standard power cord and has a combo 1/4"/XLR input, and XLR output, and a separate 1/4" through put. It isn't rack mountable as it stands as it's own portable box.

UTILIZATION

It's not at all hard to operate the A-Designs REDDI. Once you've made your connections, there's just a leveling knob for setting your volume, which is cool as you won't usually find any volume control on DI boxes. This sets REDDI apart and puts it in more of a high end DI/preamp category rather than your standard DI box. The only other real control it has is a ground switch. The manual isn't something that should be necessary...

SOUND QUALITY

The sounds of the A-Designs REDDI undoubtedly makes it one of, if not the best sounding DI box I've used to date. I've only used it a few times to record bass, and it was the first time that I really preferred the DI sound to that of the amp we recorded along side of it. It's incredibly full sounding for a DI box that does more than just reproduce your sound faithfully as it adds a certain presence that isn't normally found in a DI sound and that needs to be captured using a DI. Next time I use REDDI I'd be perfectly happy not taking an amp sound at all if I'm recording bass, as the sound of this DI alone makes for a great bass tone...

OVERALL OPINION

The A-Designs REDDI is one of the best modern tube DI boxes around and is up there with the best that I've ever used. Add it to your recording studio and it's a one stop shop for recording direct. While I've only used it for recording bass, which seems to be what it's best for, it will certainly work well for recording anything else direct like keyboards and things like that. Having said this, I'd only get it if you're going to record bass with it primarily and maybe other things here and there as it's expensive for sure. A simpler Di box will do the job for keyboards, but REDDI is just about the best there is for bass guitar...
