OK, but has it's problems!
Published on 03/29/13 at 03:03Fully weighted 88 key with graduated weights (quite nice to play, but see later comments), MIDI I/O, USB MIDI, Footswitch, Stereo audio out
UTILIZATION
Easy to use, very heavy (!),
SOUNDS
Sounds are quite nice for what it is, some great brass/sax there. Piano is perfectly useable.
OVERALL OPINION
Overall the SP5500 is ok-ish. My problem with it is that the velocity response is terrible - if you play quick 8ths you are unable to reach full velocity after the first key strike... it peaks around a value of 60-75 after the initial strike. If you play slowly you can get a full velocity response from it. Not good (velocity data measured from MIDI out)

Another problem is the USB MIDI out - It's not recognised by either of my two Macs (2007 Macbook Pro, and a 2011 Mac Pro). I've not tested it with Windows.
Both of these problems are a shame, as I'd like to use the SP550 as a master controller - ended up using a Fatar Studio 90 Plus.
It's under the bed, gathering dust - therefore... Unusable.See less30 - niconico103Published on 09/21/09 at 06:02Hi
Good piano, the keyboard is okay, the sounds are quite all right, the speakers sound good, the sequencer is okay, auto-accompaniment is okay.
Very good as a living-room or home-studio piano, it rests to be seen how solid it is for a more intensive or onstage use.00 - olivertenderPublished on 04/30/10 at 00:1988 keys with hammer-like action

Audio ins and outs
Midi in out
USB port
Sustain pedal
Adjustable pedal
USE
Nice keyboard with hammer-like action keys
Clear user manual
It's very easy to use, but limited in terms of controls. For example, it has no pan control.
SOUND
Rather good sounds for the price (piano, violins, trumpets..).
Quite modern and varied styles, especially for pop, rock, country, ballads...
The demos on thomann's site aren't the best in relation to the actual sound.

I just received it.
I'm happy with it. It seems solid, heavy enough and with a good finish (it even has some real wood).
It's extremely easy to use, but effective, and it has a 3-year warranty.
It's for beginners but also experienced pianists who don't want to go broke and have a complicated piano/synth.
I bought a korg pa50 right before this one and I was disappointed with this 61-key piano that feels like a toy. Everything can be edited, the sounds are good but it's much more expensive, no usb port, no sd reader and made in china, too. Even if it was korg.
Personally, for the use I give it and the price, I clearly prefer this one, you really have the impression of playing a real piano.See less00 - tritri888
Very good piano
Published on 03/02/11 at 11:14I won't go into the details of the features, which have been mentioned in previous reviews.
It think it's pretty heavy (30+ lbs).
And the sustain pedal is included.
USE
I bought it because I was looking for a piano with a good keyboard. I was a bit afraid because I couldn't test it beforehand.
But it's perfect! The keyboard itself is very good and pleasant! (and it can even be adjusted)
It's pretty user-friendly and clear enough =)
SOUND
Its sounds are perfect for me.
The piano sound is perfect and realistic.
Obviously, not all sounds are great, but the piano sounds are good.

I've had it for several weeks but I tested several grand pianos before. I like it a lot.
It's pretty big, it's a very good value for money!
