NU1 is a "Hybrid" piano". It possesses the feel of an upright piano of the same brand and includes the very latest digital samplings produced on a Yamaha concert grand piano.
The connectors are all there: stereo input/outputs, midi in and out, 2 headphones-plus a USB connector (for recording songs).
5 sounds: 2 acoustic pianos, electric pianos and two harpsichord.

UTILIZATION

I am a piano teacher. I live in a Paris apartment that is very loud.
I have had several Yamaha digital pianos and I was providing piano demonstrations for 10 years in a department store around the 6th district (which no longer exists today but where everything in existence could be found). I've tested all digital panos on the market since 1989!
and the NU1 is the ideal instrument for me. My loud apartment and my inability to have a silent acoustic system) have forced me to play digital instruments only. I use the instrument about 15 hours a week.

SOUNDS

the touch sensation is superb, there is the real possibility of producing nuances.
Obviously there are some concerns with the note repetition ability of the instrument.
My repertoire is that of music played from around the 19th century (ragtime) until today (boogie, jazz standards, bebop, hard bop, film music and even sometimes some classical for the pleasure of it) with a lot of work on harmonies in the jazz standards. The results are really interesting in terms of performance. There are real possibilities here, The piano sound is homogeneous with a true harmonic relief on the voices that are slightly tense. The fortissimos are somewhat limited within the medium. The
fender piano sound is simply beautiful!
there is also the possibility of saving a recording on a USB stick. The recording format can be done in an audio file which then allows you to process the recording in your DAW!

OVERALL OPINION

I have owned it for 5 weeks now. I get real piano pleasure on this instrument.
I should add that I play regularly on stage on pianos such as the U1, U3 or even the magnificent C3 of the same brand.
This, of course, still remains a digital piano but what progress! The touch provides true piano feel.
The finish on this furniture is very well done and it is that of an upright piano, the dashboard is very simple and makes you forget that you are on a digital.
the price is high but it is that of an entry level upright piano whereas with the NU1 you have higher interpretation possibilities than that found on study pianos.
at the risk of offending some of my teacher colleagues, I recommend it to students who, of course, like me, live in apartments.
NU1 is a beautiful musical and technological success!
