AHEAD 5B

Ahead 5BPublished on 01/28/04 at 15:00
I recieved a pair of AHEAD 5B drumsticks as a birthday present. I checked and found that they cost around $30 a pair.

These drumsticks are great for the modern drummer: they don't break even under the greatest pressure, and if you do break a tip, you can replace both tips for $1! That spells good drumming to me. These sticks are also easier on you hands than the traditional wood pair. This comes in handy when playing those long sessions. My drummer friends all love the look of these and have purchased some themselves.

There really isn't much that I don't like about these sticks. The only real complaint that I have is they are tough to get used to. Once you get used to them...…

Like I mentioned previously, these sticks are very hard to break. They are the Hummer of drummsticks. They are constructed using a three piece system which works great. The transitions between the pieces are very smooth which really helps out.

These sticks are great for rock. If you are a jazz drummer, you might want to stay with a Zildjian anti-shock stick. Every rock drummer should own a pair of any AHEAD sticks.

Vater Drumsticks 5B

Ahead 5BPublished on 11/03/03 at 15:00
I like to try different drumsticks, so one day I tried out the 5B's by Vater, and I liked how they felt, so I bought them. Also, I knew that a whole lot of the drummers I like use Vater, so I knew they'd be awesome quality.

These drumsticks are quite a bit lighter than the Zildjian 5B's. They are also perfectly paired, so that you can't tell one drumstick from the other. The shaft also has a nice shape, but I guess your preference all depends on your style.

Nothing! They are great.

They are built well. I have only broken one thus far, and I have been using them for about 8 months now.

I have experimented by trying Vater, and I will stick to Vater. They sound great, they're lighter...…

I actually got them as a present, but I have researched the price, and it works out to be about £30.

These sticks are brilliant for the drummer who has everything. Wood sticks snapping through gigging? Never fear, ahead are near with their next innovation. These sticks are FAR stronger than the strongest rock sticks, also the anti-vibration functions on them prevent your hands from becoming a quivering mass after you've hit that crash for the 100,000th time. I'm starting to sound like im being paid (I wish!!!) The sticks are very light, and have a generally good feel to them, they also look incredibly cool and attract interest from other drummers.

This is not a criticism as such. ...…

This is not a criticism as such. The sticks take a long time to get used to, especially if (as I have) you have been playing with a pair of Zildjian 7A's for a while (they're nice too...) also, the vibration function can take it a little too far, which means that you can lose some feeling when bouncing the stick on a cymbal, or especially, skin. Also, there is little accomodation for traditional grip. (I am left: trad grip, right standard) which means some of the useful functions are bypassed, but this is only a minor complaint.

The quality is superlative, made in the traditional Ahead way, theyve got a brilliant product here. The construction is 3 piece, which reduces the shock from the stick, and although this may sound weak, far from it! The plastic sheaths around the main metal shaft are precisely fitted, so closely in fact, that the sticks have to be put IN AN OVEN to replace them... which needs doing every few months.

Excellent product, not for everyone, but ideal for rock and hard rock to metal drummers whos' sticks break!

Never broken in 1 year.

I took 5B light and I use them with tape from home ahead to upgrade to the hand grip, otherwise metal is not touching the top and it slide.

The sound is very bright with the olive plastic.

I tried a dozen of the rods and that is my favorite.

In addition there are no pieces of wood everywhere.
