« Fantastic, Swedish-made power amp »

Published on 10/25/10 at 12:04
This is a power amp designed for touring sound systems use. Its made by a Swedish company that is known for their craftsmanship. This amp has a lot of really cool features that come into play really well when being used in a live setting. For instance, the power amp is dual channel. It also has adjustable wattage and ohm settings, which can help balance the sound appropriately for different venues and speaker settings. It also has circuit-protection, which can be a life-saver in certain situations, preventing short-circuiting and preventing damage or even destruction of the amp itself or the loudspeakers. It also has DC protection. The inputs are electronically balanced, which is a nice thing to have in a power amp. It is protected from overheating by an intricate cooling system as well as two speed fans.
The coolest thing, in my opinion, about this amp in particular is the clip limiter. A built in protection against clipping, this comes in really handy in a live situation and can be incredibly useful when dealing with unpredictable performances and frequencies. This is a privilege that most amateur or lower-budget performances don't often get with their sound equipment. There is also VHF, or very high frequency protection, which protects against dangerous frequencies from either causing feedback or damaging the system.
I have used the same mics and instruments through many different boards and power amps, and I must say, this one has fantastic sound. Granted there are a lot of factors that go into it but I've always liked the sound of these things.
I have only recently discovered that one of my favorite venues uses these power amps, and I talked to the sound tech about them. Having seen many shows there, I can speak to their great quality. Obviously the tech running the boards, the mics, and the performers all contribute to good sound as well, but great power amps do a fantastic job in these situations.
