From head to toe:

- Mechanical Hipshot
- Black graphite nut
- 5-piece maple neck and wenge "cut in C"
- Rosewood fingerboard, abalone benchmarks on the edge
- Pitch 34 (864mm)
- Original strings D'addario EXL165 (105-045)
- Body: ash, natural finish "Open Pore Natural"
- Humbuckers MK1 (MK1-4 / F & MK-1-4 / R) and Bartolini active preamp
- Black hardware, 1 volume, 1 select. microphone, an EQ switch on / off, 3 band hi / mid / low
- Bridge EB12

UTILIZATION

- A typical sound for those who love the fretless (which notes the famous "back" slightly after the attack and glissando!), But the preamp allows a different song, making it a very versatile bass.
- From my perspective, ergonomics is excellent thanks to the shape and thickness of the handle (you still have to have big fingers!)

SOUNDS

- I play in several books and this bass has never failed: jazz, gypsy, reggae, world, fusion ... etc.
- With the usual, we almost always find THE sound. To get closer to sound a little bass, I do not change my old flat for strings thread sound a little muffled, if necessary with a "small foam" (not the drink!) Under the strings at the level of bridge.

OVERALL OPINION

I have over two years, and NB4 has never failed. I never thought at this time to change or supplement my low range with hooped. The fretless requests a time of domestication, but without pretending to play exactly the tone I found that we could soon have fun playing about right :-)

The quality / price is still unbeatable in my opinion, even if the new price has not changed much in two years. The set is sturdy and well made. The finish is from my point of view almost perfect for the price.

Negative or positive depending on the point of view:
I read in another post that "the economy" has made the polish that is true. She does not like being abused but no more than another low "natural finish" in my opinion. And the less varnish over the wood vibrates and you hear the instrument sing right?

Another negative point: the original strings are threaded (at least that provided two years ago), which is not good to handle! A salesman told me that he had seriously undermined the key with the strings playing the original space of a concert ... While planning a set of strings in flat net with the purchase if you do not want to end up with a damaged neck in 2 / 2. In any case, the amateur fretless sound can not help but change!

I am not 10 everywhere because everything is perfectible, and we can always find him the defects of his qualities. But at that price I think the investment is more than worthwhile.
I advise anyone who will embark on the fretless bass with gear that will hold the road a long time, or as a second instrument for a seasoned bassist.
