Neck short scale (pitch 30), 20 frets, rosewood fingerboard with pearl markers, two DeArmond pickups with individual tone and volume, switch to choose either micro, or both. Classic. The lifts are a little cheap, but they work very well and are good tuning. The overall finish is classic and classy (binding, plate imitation tortoiseshell, ...).
UTILIZATION
The neck is very thin, the action is (relatively) low. The instrument is very light and well balanced. Happiness for the back! The ergonomics are good. As for the sound, it's plug and play. It adheres to the roots sound that offers the beast, or not.
SOUNDS
This is the kind of bass that gives the best of herself on an amp all lights (Bassman 100 siverface in my case), and flat wound strings. Corollary: it will be difficult against nature and to ask him a modern sound. However, in its field, it is perfect for jazz, blues, pop, ... For the slap: we forget.
The neck pickup is round, the bridge pickup reminds Gainsbourg Melody Nelson, the mix of both acute back a little to the original roundness. All this with the "clothesline" especially short scales. It is very close to an Epiphone Rivoli or a Fender Coronado.
FYI, it was used by the Small Faces bass player and is played from time to time today by bassist Paul Weller.
OVERALL OPINION
The H27 is not a model of versatility, but if you want a short scale to its roots, why not? The rating is very reasonable for an instrument of the sixties, it is rare in France ... Like it!
