Jolana D-Bass

Czecho-Slovakia Made a priori between 1979 and 1984, from what I've seen on sites that are devoted to him.
Handle and solid mahogany body, quite heavy. Channel crossing produces very good, with a typical profile Precision Bass 70s, long scale. Two microphones: a type of bridge Jazz Bass and Precision in a type handle. 2 volumes / 2 tones.
The bridge is an unsigned model that resembles the Badass, a little thicker.
Finally the very simple, but a subtle blend of style Rickenbacker for aesthetics, with a very versatile configuration, and ESPECIALLY: a violin that exudes health end with a varnish that leaves wood to breathe.

UTILIZATION

Handle very nice, but a bit tame, it is far enough sleeves and trunks MusicMan consors, but it is still quite big. I played on a Jazz Bass when I bought this bass, and the difference was clearly made sense.
The bass is a little heavy, but not anything dramatic, as it is solid wood, breathing heaviness quickly eased by the pleasant sensation of vibration of the body.
Question violin, it differs slightly from the Rickenbacker with better access to acute.
Again, the settings are super simple, well positioned.

SOUNDS

The pickups deliver a full and complete. When I bought this bass, it was mounted flat nets, which I changed to Direct nets round, and it sounds! I've been in a register Garage Punk (with a first training) and Krautrock / Experimental with a second, and this bass is perfect.
The micro Jazz Bass is the one I use the least, very useful to bring out the bass in the mix, it has fishing and a sword.
The Micro Precision is he bluffing: very very round, warm, with a medium color rather very retro. I use it on an Ampeg V6B an Orange Terror Bass and an Ampeg VT Classic, and the sound is great.

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for almost 3 months. I've always been a fan of simple configurations, oriented passive bass. I tried dozens of models before finding OCCAZ. There was always something that was not: varnish too thick, too thin handle, no personality ... In short, Jolana suits me perfectly for bass lines and heavy rock'n'roll, it is well in hand, and she has style!
When I brought to my luthier for a slight adjustment handle, he looked at me out of the case a suspicious eye, and then he asked me "but what is it?" I explains the history and told him a few days to keep the settings, and see if it sings. I returned five days later, and he was waiting for me with a smile on her lips. 10/10 because for me it is the ultimate bass: personality, sound and style that is envious.

Conclusion: if you see one, go for it! This is rare but the price / quality ratio is unbeatable.

It is a replica of the paper Rickenbacker 4001 made in the 70's or 80's in Eastern Europe.

The violin is very healthy, manche through three fold.

The handle is nice, very good ergonomics. It has a muzzle handy

Access to acute is good, and the sound is quick to get it and it sounds branch.

SOUNDS

That's where it's interesting! This is different from the Rickenbacker which it is based to look. The sound is medium, almost to the micro Hofner P Bass. With flat nets is downright retro and thick, with beautiful soft bass and treble.
The bridge pickup is sharper, I think it would be appropriate for the slap, but I do not practice too much. on the other hand to pick a punk record that does well as

Basically this is a good bass to play a little retro pop, or more grimey stuff, punk and rock.

OVERALL OPINION

I've had almost a year now, and I played a lot of other basses, P Bass, J Bass, Hofner Club, Violin, vintage and modern.

This is really interesting for the price at which it is found (ca. 400/500 euros) and goes out of the game in an original and engaging.

The value is good, it is very well built and really indestructible!
