Low English brand that endorse the Genesis of the great era epic.

Construction atypical.

Wood is the Obéché, an exotic wood that is not the most common instrument making large or small diffusion.
The bridge-tailpiece is the combination of a steel plate and a block of plexiglass drilled and shaped (like the blocks in which it was flowing multicolored butterflies in the 70's or today's figures) .
Proceed along the ropes the head of the guides that flatten the same time.
Electronics, it is made based interchangeable modules providing specific functions or settings (phase, phase out, split, etc. ...).
The humbuckers, they are well paved with their hairy 8 magnets.

These English had a field laboratory heart's issue, and it works!

10/10 because everything is a technical success in this low.

UTILIZATION

Bolt by adjustable truss in mind. The slanderous claim that has not Obéché high quality of resistance / strength. My bass is from 1978, it is like new, very heavy and weighs ... then for wood crate ...

Form very well studied. Some complain of heaviness on the head (imbalance). I have a strap like "cowhide back" (like my ex wife, what) and I have no problem on that side.

Access to treble is like referring to all forms stratabound; well.

Sounds, it's happiness with the modules.

10/10, because Madame merit.

SOUNDS

It offers the full range of sounds. It's a treat. The basic module is a configuration like the Telecaster (1 volume, 1 tone, 3-position rocker).

I gained Module 5, called "Studio" or "recording", rare and / or quite expensive. There are splits, we put in or out of phase, mix, you do what you want. This is great!

She has an amazing sustain, a perfect definition even in the low frequencies, and leads the dance in my manly Rumble 60.

Small hands will be uncomfortable on his sleeve, but the effort is worth the reward.

OVERALL OPINION

I'm in love for a year and a half. It's not a bass fagot, it moves squarely, so it has been presented as the Rickenbaker English.

It has many facets, and its price has risen sharply in time since it was rediscovered, is not stolen.

Best of all: a forum speaking of this brand enthusiasts can still converse with Hould Norman, one of two co-founders of the brand alive. The man is 90 years thou to me (do not ask ... it would be "shocking") and is rich in knowledge and teachings.

10/10 because I am an absolute addict.

One last thing: In the forum of the brand, one of the members was English amateur luthier, and was engaged in rebuilding a replica on the advice of Norman. So successful that it now does more than that (and he does everything in respsect of origin, to the hardware and pickups). In other words, Shergold are reproduced at scale dimension, and its order book is well shielded. Made in England by the makers of Burns, is a passive bass with 2 big humbuckers. Its main feature is that the sound adjustment module is interchangeable: there are 8 different, very hard to find. I have the modules n1, 3 and 5 each with spcificits particulires (see site for dtails Shergold). Detail surprising: the bridge is plexiglass!

UTILIZATION

The handle is very nice, but beware: long scale! it's not for little hands. The bass is not too heavy but I find it stings a little nose, which the makers have corrected the Marathon model. The sound is fabulous: very warm and round, without losing the attack. As it is made by luthiers in love with their craft, they are instruments that age very well, if they have been maintained. Only the varnish, polyurethane, is craqule with age, gives a small ct vintage pretty cool.

SOUNDS

I play on my ampeg portabass with 1x12 "and 4x8" and it sounds perfect if you like the warm sound very 70's. Forget the slap or the neo-metal, this bass is not for ca. FYI Shergold was the official Mike Rutherford of Genesis 70-80 period '... With a fuzz or distortion it sounds standard. The modules allow a large variety of the trs, fat funky to jazzy mdium through the rock with a good attack, the possibilities are endless.

OVERALL OPINION

I've had four months and I gradually used in all parts of my two groups as it is warm and versatile. Warning: diificile instrument available today.
