« Squier Matt Freeman Precision »
Published on 09/27/11 at 15:00Matt Freeman is the bassist for Rancid. He played his tried and true 70s Fender Precision forever and recently designed a signature model along the lines of the Squier Classic Vibe series.
I found the features of this bass appealing; beefy neck, hot pickup, heavy duty bridge and a blonde body on a maple neck. Priced just right at $349
Plugged in the bass gives you the iconic Precision sound on a decent buck. The instrument came setup well and held tuning well.
I really liked the cut of the neck (it is a vintage C neck) but I did not like the super thick and glossy finish. I'd imagine you could hit it with some light sandpaper, but I have not.
A basswood body finished in a thick poly. The maple neck is tinted to give it that vintage pop. 1.65' nut width which is just a hair thinner than the classic P-bass neck. Speaking of the nut it is a synthetic bone product.
Buy this if you need to add a P-bass to your arsenal for cheap. It comes down to personal preferences; the neck finish didn't appeal to me.
