Note that there are two versions black head or white head. The first is a manufacturer error.

UTILIZATION

The handle is really good, it is quickly forgotten!
Varnish the handle hangs a little bit but easily remedied.
The body is very light (probably a variety of exotic mahogany).
The pitch of 27 inches is easier than on Agile 28 inches.

SOUNDS

Microphones that equips RGA8 are really the worst microphones exist, any cheap copy a little better and made serious handily in full. A change is needed microphones and even a high-end amp they do not save the setting (RIVERA BONEHEAD + LOBOTOM for me). The sounds are correct.

OVERALL OPINION

The violin is ok but nothing special, Korean models of the 90s and 2000 were better finishes, ergonomic handle is really good. A change of pickups and strings (too soft) required for a proper scratch.
The white finish, head and body, if you are lucky enough to have the white head is really classy!

You are not here to read the technical specifications that are on the website of the brand ...

However ... I had mine with Mount Seymour Duncan Blackouts and Ernie Ball 10-74 strings tuning the MESHUGGAAAAH ...

UTILIZATION

thin sleeve trs / trs enjoyable surprised by the approach because the bte (my 1st) of 8 strings to let forcment skeptical ... but the first edge grip is s qu'aisment longer ... I play mostly rhythm so acute in the ACCS m not matter ... but it's a guitar not too heavy and I think for a shreddeu ais ...
the sound is just standard with blackouts ... However, the game according to the 8th string is proscribed on the other hand ... no probs with the 7th .. hh ... a bold and well trs sounds heavy.
the violin is quite plutt ... nothing wrong for the price on mine ...

edit of 02/12/2011: Finally the game according to the 8th string is quite possible (There's an amateur musician on my profile ... c is not for nothing) ... but we must find the rglages adquate so that the sound does not bleed a little ... "galre" dj with good microphones ... so I think with the microphones origins ... forget it .. ..

Hmm ... sounds clear ... the neck pickup is a bit softer but hey .... it s is .... but for arpges with effects to the sound of mtal ... trs is clean and distinct notes (blackouts. .. always) ...

OVERALL OPINION

I recently ... but for every worshiper of frquences tlluriques a purchase is not ngliger ... the weak point of this guitar ... find both its electronic l OCCAZ and assembly of blackouts or emg-x ... and your neighbors throw stones to erase that smile fool the musician in ecstasy.

South Korea, fixed bridge, I changed the mic I set the 808X purchased from EMG thomman.Il to be a little handyman to do so even même.Les used by Tosin Abassi and its rings as well as serious clear that saturated.

the handle is super nice, the small minus is the weight and mechanical self-locking of the handle are made of an alloy not terrible, I think the change.

SOUNDS

What I like the versatility made the new micro they are clear and precise, even in the grave, whether plain or saturation.

OVERALL OPINION

I use it since August mostly in the studio or rehearsal.
The value for money is worth € 647 to € 230 for guitar and two microphones that are fairly easy to install except that the insert must change the battery because we spent two 1.5V to 9v.
The original microphone are appalling no definition.
For less than € 900 you get nearly the same result as the big sister who is around € 1600.

The Ibanez RGA 8 string was designed as a lower priced version of their recent Prestige 8 string guitar. The 8 string is a fairly new idea, having really only come into popularity in the last year or so with the advent of djent and other forms of metal music really coming full fore onto the scene. Many players requested an extended range guitar and Ibanez delivered first with the Prestige 8 string, and then with the lower priced RGA8 string guitar.

It features a mahogany body, a 5 piece maple/walnut neck, a rosewood fretboard with 24 frets, an Ibanez Edge III fixed bridge, sealed tuners, and a high output pair of Ibanez LZ8 humbuckers. It's capped off with a volume control, a 3 way selector switch and a frequency response switch which changes the EQ structure of the guitar's tone.

UTILIZATION

The design of this guitar is ergonomic if you want it to be. Personally I think the neck is an abomination... it's a Wizard model neck and EXTREMELY thin. This combined with the uber-wide size needed to hold 8 strings makes it all but unplayable to someone like me who prefers a thick neck with a thinner nut width. However, for those players who like the Ibanez necks, I'm sure it's a dream. It's a fairly heavy guitar too... not nearly as light as many Ibanez guitars I have seen over the years. The upper fret access is great considering that the guitar has 24 frets and Ibanez's famed AANJ (All Access Neck Joint) neck heel which facilitates getting to those higher notes.

Getting a good tone out of this guitar is pretty simple. There really isn't much to get in the way of pure sonic mayhem, and like most metally guitars, it's not something that I expected to do great and pure clean and low gain tones... they're meant for djent. Oh yeah!

SOUNDS

I've tried this guitar through various high gain amp rigs and have concluded that it's a very compressed sounding guitar overall. I've never liked Ibanez stock pickups, and this guitar really is no exception. The high end is weak, there's really no midrange (essential to be heard in a mix) the low end just kind of dies when you go to the (really) low strings. It might be that the strings are so low that it loses a lot of definition or maybe I'm just not an 8 string player, but even on the regular 6 strings on the guitar it doesn't sound stellar. The pickups are quite compressed and sound pretty generic overall... kind of like an EMG that didn't quite make it. I'm sure the Prestige model comes with some nicer pickups... at least I'd hope so. The clean tones are pretty bland overall, not much to talk about here. The distorted tones are decent enough, but are marred by the pickup compression and weird frequency response, as well as the really low strings.

OVERALL OPINION

All in all I think this guitar (and the whole idea of 8 strings) is a hilarious fad and doesn't really hold any water. It doesn't really work practically as an instrument due to the fact that the low strings have almost no tension/flop around, and also that the pitches are so low that it sounds like mush anyway... especially with compressed distortion that many metal players use. It's reasonably well crafted and may sound better with new pickups, but I picked it up as a joke and still considered it that as I put it back on the wall... a joke. If you want an 8 string it's a good buy, but I'm not sure exactly WHY you'd want one.

The RGA line is Ibanez's line of arch top RG models. These models have a very comfortable feel compared to the normal models due to their arch top design. This guitar is an extended range guitar. This guitar has 8 strings. This guitar features a mahogany body with a bolt on wizard neck. The neck has a 27 inch scale to handle the lower strings. The neck has 24 jumbo frets on a rosewood fretboard. It has a set of active Ibanez pickups which are the same size and look of EMG's and have a similar sound. The controls are pretty unusual with a single volume with a 3 way blade toggle. The extra switch on the guitar is an active mid cut switch. The bridge is an Edge 3 tremolo but it is fixed in place. There is also a locking nut. This combined with a locked tremolo means this guitar stays in tune well.

UTILIZATION

With the thin Ibanez necks it is easy to adapt to the wide fretboard of an 8 string. You do not want a super thick neck when you are going into an extended range guitar because it will just make it even harder to play. The double locking setup does a good job in keeping this guitar in tune. I dont know why Ibanez is making some of their tremolo systems into hardtails but it works I guess. This guitar has a set of active Ibanez pickups which have a battery compartment on the back for a quick swap of pickup batteries. The arch top body is super comfortable. With normal RG's the guitars have sharpish edges that can kinda dig into your body, with this guitar these edges are rounded off.

SOUNDS

Ibanez got pretty close to perfect with this design. When you are tuning low or have an extended range guitar what you want is a mahogany body and active pickups and this is what you get on this guitar. But the extra eq knob is a bit of a miss. The mahogany body gives you a really thick tone compared to the basswood junk they make most of their guitars out of. The mid cut knob is a joke. I thought it was a kill switch when I first saw it which would have been cooler with active pickups. They should rename the knob the tone suck knob instead of the eq cut knob. The active Ibanez are pretty decent. They are pretty much EMG copies. You can get nice high gain tones from both of them. You can get a good high gain lead tone from the neck position but it will get muddy if you pour it on too much. The bridge position has the nice high end sizzle you expect from active pickups. This keeps it from getting muddy in the lower frequencies. With these pickups being oversized you can easily swap in a set of real EMG's which is nice because 7 string EMG pickups are not a direct swap for many guitars.

OVERALL OPINION

With this RGA8 you are on the right track to having a great 8 string guitar. The way the guitar comes it is a perfectly acceptable model which can be gigged right out of the box. If you swap in a set of EMG pickups you will have an 8 string as good as any 4000 custom job guitar out there. If you are looking for a nice 8 string to play your Djent riffs on here is a good example.

Do you get a good sound easy?
I tried the guitar on my tube amp, the sound is good when the volume is not too high, but once you push the amp it gets too rough.
I am considering a change of pickups for 808 which I think will be much more suited to the guitar. The microphones are provided poor, no personality and very precise.

I play almost as metal so yes the guitar is very suitable

Clearly once the switch is activated are correct, but not a good one buys 8 strings to make pleasant strolls ...
Saturated level I would say that the sound depends on your amp, but I put a lot of time to get good sound because of the pickups ...

OVERALL OPINION

I use the guitar for a month now is a good 8 strings for those who do not want to invest too much in uncharted territory.

In summary:
The pros:
- Handle
- The bridge
- 8 strings

The -:
- Microphones
- The guitar does not come in carrying cases or galley house and I find one where she goes.
- The equalizer (simpa plain but unnecessary distortion)
- Finishing (small pieces of painted around the microphones, traces of sanding head, etc ...)

Value correct price but no more: I would have preferred to pay 100 € more and have delivered with EMG pickups, rather than the "active" mounted on the 3V

The guitar is impressive at first sight: Having never touched either for 8 strings IRL is still simpa to finally hitting them.

Its micro level drool a bit and are not very accurate but with a good setup is to get some good sounds, both at light-saturated. The pickups are on the 3V which is pretty weird but hey it is with Ibanez! I think the change here this summer for EMG.
There is a kind of equalizer switch: There is no point in its disto but there is a bit more utility in the clear ...
The bridge it is, I think it's better than a tailpiece passing through, in fact it may well grant precisely the guitar and it's nice!
The neck is perfect: Large certe because of 8 strings, but thin and flat! (Thinner than my Jackson COW7).
Both adaptation record: Since I play a lot of 7 string I have set a few minutes to get used to the size of the handle!


With the experience I would do without hesitation that choice! I could buy the RG2228 but I am facing the RGA8 + Changing pickups which I think is a better investment, especially from Ibanez ...

UTILIZATION

The handle is clearly the biggest advantage of this 8 strings: plain, practical and comfortable despite the size. For smaller hands, it can be a bit hot at first boxes at the top of the eighth round to reach rope. It's crazy to feel at ease when there are so many strings. (That said, I'm used to 7 strings, I do that a plus The super-strat shape will no longer arise. balanced and practical. SOUNDS

Oriented "djent" metal, it does not offer ultra-wide sound palette. It's a shame, with eight strings can be quite make all styles of music. For distos: The switch from EQ is nice if you plug the guitar into a pod. Hard on an amp (one Laboga Mr hector the store) it became loud and shrill, disembodied. The pickups are very limited, the sound is rather fatty and mushy, not too attack ... as if we blocked the knob tone down. I could adjust the pod X3 to enjoy the guitar, but it sounds it always falls into the same type of sound (with lots of treble, if no attack audible). That said, they sound balanced in the low mids and lows and the 7th or 8th strings do not sound different from other 6 (which is the case on 7 strings cheap) clean sound: nice, especially in middle position. The neck pickup gives too low and not very defined if used alone. 4 / 10: I note harsh, but I think this guitar offer many more avenues to explore and have a range of clean sounds and distortion to find if the microphones were not foam.

OVERALL OPINION

After more than three weeks of heavy use and abuse I'm really happy. I could not feel other monsters of the genre ... having said that I had a lot of 7 string in the hands and the neck is amazing ease. The finish is simple but well done. It is well agreement with the floyd fixed. For a first instrument ... maybe not. To get into the frenzy of 7 / 8 strings is perfect. The value for money seems to me more than adequate given the overall finish and features outsized. Too bad the pickups are Ibanez made in such limited (well, disappointing but usable). I think given the quality of the guitar as a whole, it's worth it to mount EMG or Seymour Duncan (or Lundgren to extend the capabilities of the beast. According to those who have, it's worth it ... I would put a Up date when I would have glued two EMG 808. M'enfin, do not believe in Santa Claus ... if you want a real good guitar of this style it is better to take the RG2228 and leave his wallet starve.
