I bought these speakers in 2002. In the era, I long hsit with passive speakers + amp kit from Yamaha, which amounted to the same price around. Its level, in the same CATEGORY c'tait but I found fun and practice the concept of the speaker amplifies (a combo could be my keyboard for my arranger).
