Inspired by the 1991 Russian fuzz made popular by David Gilmour the Civil War has a full, blooming tone due to its big low-end and a nice grit to chords.

UTILIZATION

Pedal has three knobs: Volume, Tone and Sustain.
The tone knob in particular has a wide tone sweep which is really awesome.

SOUND QUALITY

The big bottom end and the smooth tone of the SUF Civil War Muff made this my favorite SUF Pedal. It has a loose and gritty character which compliments to it's overall smooth tone.
If you're looking for "sustain", this pedal has it = plenty of them!
Honestly, I couldn't find a bad setting out of this pedal.

OVERALL OPINION

This is the best Civil War clone out there hands down!

UTILIZATION

3 Button / 1 switch as usual on the Muffs. on the other hand, why on earth some manufacturers insist on putting the power jack on the side, it's so easy to have it over when you have a pedal board.

SOUND QUALITY

Well all said that the previous opinion is obvious even to people who do not know anything about Big Muff.

It's big, not even with the fuzzy hyper Sustain knob fully. Ideal for the power chord will sound 90's (if not "grunge). The level of serious immediately creates an effect of the sound barrier. I think a guitarist who plays with it risk of bitching bassist ( but the sound is great on a bass, you have to take the same in revenge).

As I also have a Russian Tall Font Wren & Cuff, I must say that this CWM is still quite different even though the spirit of Sovtek muffs is there. Both have less gain and fuzz that US versions, both have good bass (but the TFR has a little more). For cons, the TFR has slightly hollow mids (unless the US), while if it is limited in the CWM is almost like a lump in the same medium. Hence the impression of big sound that will be well manageable in a mix.

OVERALL OPINION

And well deserves its Stomp Under Foot (micro-) reputation. Pedal in a classy minimalism (not too much a Soviet look anyway), its a big but never fully rough (well it depends on the guitar with my Dano 59, I avoid fully sustain if I want to play more agreements of two notes).

A $ 172, fdpin is an excellent value for money.

Matt's boss SUF handles everything himself, we are in handmade boutique pedal. And so be patient. He had told me 12 weeks of time, I waited a little less than two months in fact.

And I want to go try his version of the Triangle or Ram's Heads 73. (Arghhh crisis GAS! I have more space on my pedal board)

UTILIZATION

It’s pretty much impossible to get a bad sound out of this one. Plug it in, dial it in and you’re set. Standard muff controls, the sustain knob really stands for gain/clipping. The pedal is very well put together, I’ve never had any reliability issues with it.
The big plus with this one is that it is so much smaller than the original vintage muffs, making it a lot easier to house on a pedalboard where real estate is scarce.
My one complaint is that one of the graphics painted on was not as durable, and started to wear off after a while. I know Matt has changed the design of this one, so this may have since been resolved.


SOUND QUALITY

This one is based off of the vintage EHX civil war muff, which you might recognize off a few Pink Floyd albums. This one is probably the most smooth and creamy of the muff sounds, and almost sounds more like a thick OD than a straight up fuzz. It has a pretty versatile range of tons, from really deep and muddy to crisp and gritty. It works beautifully paired with a nice OD pedal, I’ve had great results before with a Lovepedal Kanji. I’m not really a huge fuzz guy, but this one is by far my favorite.
The old EHX pedals where a little hit or miss as component values were not quite as consistent as they are today. Matt has basically recreated what one of the nicer sounding ones would have been, now on a consistent basis.


OVERALL OPINION

This is probably the only fuzz type pedal that I’ve ever really found usable in a wide range of settings. Anywhere from smooth and creamy to aggressive fuzz, it would be a great addition to any board. Matt at Stomp Under Foot takes great pride in his work and is one of the best and nicest builders currently on the market. I’d also highly recommend getting on his mailing list, it is full of special runs, contests, and deals. Bottom line is, if you are after a smooth fuzz type pedal, this is probably one of the better ones on the market.

SOUND QUALITY

Its up to the legend (I saw on the forum expert on big muff kitrae, it is the most faithful reproduction of the Sovtek civil war, I have not had an original look for the hands but it is a killer), there are sounds to Gilmour without problem, the pedal is magic for the game lead, thick, creamy, sweet.
For chord playing is very thick, with a nice bass response, you can line without sounding aggressive.
A lot of latitude in terms of gain, good fuzz quite thick and not too saturax up absolute power with powerful bass when you put the gain at the bottom.
Responds very well to different types of guitars and microphones as different lamps (6L6, EL34 ...)

OVERALL OPINION

I have lots of fuzz and big muff (including 2 other stomp Under Foot) is the sweetest big muff clones I've tried and most powerful in the bass also, unless she cons gain than my 3 other big muff.
