Help with Reel to Reel (Tascam 388)

I just got my 388. Last night I had the button pressed that pulls the tape to the head for scrubbing purposes. About 6 different times I forgot to disingage the switch before I rewound or fast forwarded. CAN THIS HAVE HURT MY HEADS?
