help with setup
I am new to all this. My equipment
Peavy 16 channel mixer
8 channel stageworks PA
PC with cakewalk program

All i want is to record my sister on guitar and vocals and myself on drums

what other equipment do i need to acheive this. What kind of mics and all. I have a tight budget so go easy on me.
You should be able to get some decent recordings with your current setup. I'm going to assume that you're familiar with connecting your mixer to your PC. If not, I've found several very good sites with information on doing this plus lots of other tips.

As far as the micing is concerned, I currently use 2 Shure SM57 mics in an XY configuration for recording acoustic guitars and a single SM57 positioned very close to the grate and center of the speaker cone of the amp for recording electric guitars. I haven't had much experience micing drums, but the articles in the links below should help get you started.

If you're on a limited budget, in my opinion, you can't go wrong with an SM57 mic. It is a work horse. They are very durable and a good piece of equipment for the price.

A very good general overview of the process:
