I'm new to PC recording, with a background in porta studio type cassette recorder.
My new Dell PC, very powerful, will be arriving soon, equipped with the SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ( NOT Platinum) sound card.
I'm thinking of maybe Guitar Tracks Pro.
Main use: Good Quality demo/vanity recording, one instrument or voice at a time, building up multiple tracks. Mostly acoustic with occasional electric guitar, bass, or keyboard.
Secondary use: Turn my old 4 tracks into CD's
Possible occasional use (doubtful): recording live band, including drums, bass, 2 guitars or guitar/keyboard, and up to 3 vocals. Probably won't happen though, and would probably settle for sending a stereo mix to the PC.
The sound card has line in, mic in, CD/Analog in, and a few other things, but only one of each.
Will I be able to do at least use 1 & 2 above? Will I get a good enough sound quality going with a decent microphone (say a Shure sm57) to plug into the sound card?
Should I be looking to a separate device for inputting signals?
Thanks,
rubberdog
PS: Though I don't know what it all means, here are the specs on the sound card:
