Thread DA-88 Problem

I have a used DA-88 I purchased on ebay.
Seems to playback very well.
However when I engage the record channels the meters peak out.
I have 3 other DA-88's I've used since 1997 without any trouble.
But I have never seen this before, is there some kind of internal dip switch
or some factory default that can be reset to clear this internal feedback problem?
